Peter MacKay, Canada's Defence Minister, today declared that the Libya bombing mission has been a success.
Yessiree, we got all those Ghadaffi Loyalists who were making things tough for our NATO projectiles of democracy and our erstwhile rebels. We done learned them a good lesson. Don't be giving us the finger or we'll be unleashing the projectiles of democracy.
Mr. MacKay didn't go into a whole lot of detail, and for good reason. Our rebels have turned out to be, well, not exactly the paragons of virtue that we might have hoped. I mean, lynching those black foreign workers was a mistake, a mistake anyone could make. But does NATO really want to empower a bunch of yahoos who hang black folks from trees? Because they're black in the wrong place at the wrong time?
But empower them we have. And all that stands between them and running the new Libya are a few hundred loyalists hunkered down in Sirte.
Hmm... the New Libya. All that oil, so few people.
Let's cross our fingers and pray for the loyalists.
