Canada PM Harper solves Malaysia Airlines crash in Ukraine

Yup, Big Steve knows the score.

With no evidence whatsoever, PM Harper went public with what really happened to MH17.

It was Russian aggression.

Putin!

While we must give Mr. Harper credit for showing enough self-restraint to not name Putin personally, I think we all get the drift of what is meant by "Russian aggression".

Harper and his Tonto, the always blustery Foreign Minister John Baird, have done more to besmirch Canada's image on the world stage than the last 100 years worth of bureaucrats from the Deep North.

From being a genteel "middle-power" in the Pearson era, Canada has morphed into the loudest cheerleader for the fascist, racist, state of Israel, and the neo-fascist putschists in Kyiv.

All for the sake of scoring a few votes from right-wing Jews and right-wing Ukrainians in the next election.

Shame!

Canada's deafening silence on the slaughter in the CAR

In the last two months, Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs has issued exactly one press release about the genocide unfolding in the Central African Republic. That was a March 27 missive promising more humanitarian aid.

The last two months have witnessed the wholesale ethnic cleansing of the Muslim population of the country. Hundreds of thousands have fled and thousands have been slaughtered by Christian militias.

Meanwhile, during that same interval the same Department of Foreign Affairs issued 17 press releases about alleged Russian designs on Ukraine and other former Soviet satellites in the neighbourhood. The sum total of casualties as the result of Russian aggression?

Zero.

Foreign Minister John Baird re-invents Canadian history

John Baird's Department of Foreign Affairs has a press release on its website today that includes this whopper;

"One of Canada’s oldest and most basic values is supporting a sovereign state’s territorial integrity,” said Baird.

Oh really?

Didn't Canada just take leave of a NATO mission in Afghanistan that had everything to do with propping up a NATO-installed stooge and nothing to do with that sovereign state's integrity?

And where was Canada when our bestest besties in the whole world were egregiously violating the territorial integrity of Lebanon in 2006?

Where were the protests from the Canadian government when the other best friends were laying waste to the territorial integrity of Iraq?

And wasn't Baird himself photographed autographing a bomb to be delivered by Canadian jets to Libya in the egregious violation of that sovereign state's territorial integrity in 2011?

But suddenly "supporting a sovereign state's territorial integrity" is a cherished Canadian value of long standing?

I think what he meant to say was "we're a bunch of dumbshits who get our talking points from Washington and Tel Aviv. Apart from that, we don't really stand for much of anything, but if a few of of our mining conglomerates or oil companies can make a buck, we're in!"

The curious case of Canada's Sri Lanka human rights crusade

I always thought the Tamils and the Palestinians had a lot in common.

The big dogs in Likud think so too. That's why Israel has always been comfortable backing the government of Sri Lanka in its battle with Tamil separatists.

So you would automatically assume that Israel and her very best friend in the world would be on the same page vis-a-vis the Tamil-Sri Lanka dispute.

You'd be wrong.

FM Baird has been so extraordinarily strident in his denunciations of Sri Lanka that he has found himself in the foreign press; a rarity for Canada's lightweight Foreign Minister.

There would seem to be a massive contradiction between how the Harper government sees the Tamil struggle as compared to the Palestinian struggle.

What could possibly account for that?

Might it be the tens of thousands of Tamils living in key Toronto ridings, ridings that are critical to Harper's re-election?

Just wondering.
