Greasing the skids for war on China

The Yellow Peril demonization pogrom continues apace in Canadian national media. At the Globe and Mail it fell to Campbell Clark to carry the can today; "Canada must embrace Biden's China alliance."

There's an obvious typo in the title; it's an anti-China alliance Biden is crafting, and he's hot to trot. In fact, in his first call with Justin after the election, and apparently Campbell was on the line, Biden was "effusive about working with allies."

How effusive was he? Not effusive enough. Mr. Clark suggests we "should be pushing" Biden in the right direction lest he waver in his resolve to confront the Yellow Peril, "we" being the allies who have shivered through four years of darkness waiting for the light of freedom to shine again in Biden's City on a Hill.

Meanwhile, over at the CBC, Evan Dyer wants us to follow Australia's lead and ramp up the Yellow Peril rhetoric. Perhaps if we join Australia in pushing back against Chinese aggression it'll stiffen Biden's spine? That's a somewhat unlikely scenario. Canada and Australia together spend about 7% of what the US spends on "security" every year. Fortunately, the prospects of pipsqueak me-too nations like Canada and Australia bringing China to heel are purely imaginary.

After four years in the shadow of the Orange Ogre, The Nations of Virtue are uniting again behind the leadership of the Exceptional and Indispensable Nation, the nation with the most powerful military machine in history.

Be afraid.

Here we go again...

Bolivia just had an election, and the guy who won is not a favorite of Washington. Ergo, the election was obviously fraudulent.

Bolivia is another one of those countries where the US government-funded "Non-Governmental Agency" the National Endowment for Democracy has been generously building capacity and stuff, which boils down to funding any group of malcontents who promise to make trouble for the government the USA does not approve of.

The US immediately declared the election fraudulent, and was instantly backed up by the usual ass-kissers in the EU and its South American vassal states. No surprise there.

But it prompts this scoldy story by Evan Dyer at CBC; Canada not ready to condemn Bolivia's election. The tone suggests that Canada is being remiss in not puckering up in sync with the other toadies.

Don't worry, Evan; we'll surely pucker up soon enough. Give it 48 hours.

After Venezuela, we must bring democracy to Cuba, Nicaragua

Looks like Canada's state broadcaster is floating the idea that after the Abrams-Bolton-Pompeo "axis of virtue" succeeds in restoring democracy to Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua will be next. In fact, Evan Dyer's article aligns perfectly with public statements already made by Bolton, Pompeo, and anti-Castro superhawks like Marco Rubio.

The rhetoric of Foreign Minister Freeland also aligns perfectly with the US goal of regime change in all three countries. The so-called Lima Group is little more than a fig-leaf designed to provide a facade of widespread regional support for American machinations, and Canada's participation is intended to put a happy face on what is otherwise a cabal of extreme right-wing regimes.

Relying on the expertise of "historian and democracy activist" Michael Lima Cuadra is telling. I'm not sure what makes him a historian; there is no record I can find of scholarly articles, books, or teaching posts that would justify the label.

Cuadra's "democracy activism," however,  is on display at his twitter account @ngotranslations. He obviously remains nostalgic for the setback freedom suffered at the Bay of Pigs in 1961. That CIA initiative was one of the few regime change operations in Latin America since WWII that didn't achieve its objective.


Almost sixty years later, it's still business as usual.

Now would be a good time to bid adieu to NATO

NATO promotes democratic values and guarantees the freedom and security of its members -NATO

According to this story by Evan Dyer at CBC, our NATO allies France, Britain, and the US, are actively engaged in tracking down and killing their own citizens who had volunteered to fight with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Do these citizens of our NATO allies get the benefit of fair trials or the presumption of innocence or any of that fancy rule-of-law stuff?

No way Jose. Their names get added to a kill list and it's so-long Jihadi John.

That's what "democratic values" have been reduced to in the three most powerful NATO nations.

Do we really want to be part of that club?

Ever since its reason for being wafted away with the collapse of the Soviet Union, NATO has been desperate to make itself relevant again.

Let's bomb Belgrade.

Let's liberate the women of Afghanistan.

Let's bomb Libya.... and so on.

Needless to say, none of these busy-work exercises did much for freedom or democratic values.

That's not all. How are "democratic values" faring in Turkey these days? Turkey is the NATO member with the second largest military after the US.

And how do our democratic values stack up against those of our NATO allies Poland and Hungary?

With tiny and entirely irrelevant Montenegro being made a full-patch NATO member just recently, it's beyond obvious that the leadership of the NATO gang sees goading Russia as a great strategy for keeping itself in business.

And just who is leading NATO?

Ostensibly it's General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg, but every serious person knows that it's the US that calls the shots in NATO.

And as we know, the Commander in Chief of the USA is one Donald J. Trump.

I'll say it again; how badly do Canadians really want to be in that club?
