Canada's everyman poet laureate buys the farm; RIP Stompin' Tom

Stompin' Tom had just one tune; I'm sure you can hear it in your head right now.

But he must have had a thousand songs that went with that tune. And whether he was singing about the national game or getting shit-faced on Saturday night or hauling a load of potatoes from PEI to Toronto, he had a certain era and a certain Canada pegged from the get-go.

In the everlasting fullness of his career there can't be too many small-town arenas or union halls or Legion halls that he missed.

But we'll sure miss him.
