Fourteen foot aluminum and a 9.9 Merc

That title is so iconic I'm surprised it's not a country song.

Yet.

The fourteen foot aluminum with the 9.9 was a staple at fishing lodges all over the place back in the day. At least places that had fishing lodges.

You'd even see them on sixteen footers too, or on twelves. A 9.9 on a twelve was a hot-rod! You could seriously get the wind-in-the-hair thing going with that combo!

What was amazing about those old outboards is that they ran forever. If you live around an inland fishing lake today you can no doubt find a fifty year old 9.9 that still runs like new.

Unfortunately, for my purposes, a fourteen foot aluminum with a 9.9 Merc isn't going to cut it. I've been boat shopping for fifty years and haven't bought one yet, but I'm finally able to knock the 14' foot tin boat off the list.

You want a little more than a fourteen foot aluminum if you're boating on Georgian Bay. Saw a nice Regal the other day with twins and a porcelain toilet.

That's more my speed.
