McCain v Trump

Donald Trump has never made an issue of his service to America during the Viet Nam War.

I suspect that's because he never served in the Viet Nam War. Nope, Donald was busy studying up at
Wharton. (What, Trump attended Wharton?... and he passed?... he graduated? Who knew?...)

Not having served in America's criminal campaign against Viet Nam can hardly be seen as a bad thing.

Mr. McCain on the other hand, trades large on his heroics in that war. Yup, not only did he serve his country; he survived torture and came out a war hero in that criminal campaign against Viet Nam.

Here's a story called The Horror of John McCain; war hero or war criminal.

There's lots of stories out there in a similar vein. That's why the good senator is not pursuing Mr. Trump's slanders with any enthusiasm.

That's why Trump's comments about Mr. McCain's war record have so quickly faded away.

2014: not a good year for the doves of peace

Hope this is not an omen. No sooner does Pope Francis have a couple of his toddler acolytes free up a couple of white doves symbolizing peace, than they are set upon by a crow and a seagull.

He'd just been praying for peace in Ukraine. If the papal doves symbolize peace, what do the attackers symbolize?  It's a tough call, but I'm going to go with John McCain as the seagull, and Oleg Tyagnybok as the crow...

Senator McCain on the warpath

John McCain made a secret visit to Syria yesterday, there to meet with Free Syria Army officials who also had to be surreptitiously spirited into Syria in order to stage their photo-ops with McCain "in-country" as they say.

That's because the FSA "commanders" McCain met with don't normally spend much time "in-country," and they certainly have no command over the FSA units doing damage to the Assad regime on the ground.

They do however have neatly tailored and crisply laundered uniforms, at least in the photo-ops.

Perhaps because he was profoundly impressed with those uniforms, or perhaps because he has inadvertently begun to believe his own bullshit, McCain came away from the encounter convinced that the best thing America could do for the future of peace and democracy is to deliver heavy weapons, and lots of them, to the "Syrian opposition."

Just to prove that McCain's foray into the SFA PR sweepstakes didn't happen in a vacuum, headlines across the Western world have provided a timely resurrection of the claims that yes, Assad has once again crossed those red lines and used chemical weapons on his own people.

Which proves that even though the FSA has no clout on the ground in Syria, they still have plenty of schlep in the world of Western news media.

And it once again brings the aging Senator front and center in the "lets make war" sweeps. Nobody is hungrier for war than Senator McCain. He will go to his grave as America's number one war-monger.

Just what is it in his past that drives him to be America's number one uber-patriot today?

Limey dolt interviews the three wise men just in time for Christmas

It's a holiday hug between Piers Morgan and Senators McCain, Lieberman, and Graham.

He's trying to lure them into shallow water, but so far it ain't working

He gave it a good try on the topic of gun control, to no avail.

Piers is pretty much letting them have their way with the entitlements debate as well.

Senator Graham has just let it be known that he will never again vote for an increase in the debt ceiling.

And then we get sidelined for the latest up-date from the latest mall shooting.

That's Christmas in America!

Senator McCain spills the beans; Afghanistan has been a triumph!

That's got to come as a surprise to most folks who have been watching our "progress" over the past eleven years.

But there he was on Meet the Press this morning, assuring America that we've decimated the Taliban. Not only that, but the vast majority Of Afghans absolutely love their NATO/US liberators and would like us to stay indefinitely.

Which is what McCain is lobbying for. And he cites a number of historical precendents. Aren't American troops still in Korea and Japan and Germany? Haven't they been there indefinitely? Don't all those people love us?

So what's the rush pulling out of Afghanistan? Besides, even though the Taliban are decimated, as soon as we leave al Qaeda is gonna be all over the place.

What we should be rushing, according to McCain, is the liberation of Syria. That Assad chap is pretty much the most evil dictator in the whole world. For some obscure reason we should back up al Qaeda chief Zawahiri's call to free those poor Syrian folks from their government.

It was one of those McCain performances that leaves you scratching your head. Is he really privy to so much insider info that any of this nonsense might make sense?

Or is he just smoking way better stuff than us regular folks?
