'tards 'o terror walk after court rules entrapment

It was always abundantly obvious that the opportunistic set-up of John Nuttall and Amanda Korody in a so-called terror plot was nothing more than a police state fabrication designed to get scary headlines. Scary headlines are of course exactly what the Harper gang ordered up. If the public can be convinced that there are indeed terrorists lurking among us, we'll be that much more amenable to giving up more rights and freedoms.

Nuttall and Korody were two of the most unlikely terrorists you could imagine. Intellectually challenged drug addicts with a passing and superficial interest in Islam, they were over a period of months "radicalized" by a team of up to 240 undercover agents. Wow!

Had even a tiny fraction of the resources invested in entrapping the pair been made available for their improvement, the RCMP might have found the time to do some useful stuff - maybe track down some of those missing and murdered indigenous women or their killers or something... but that wouldn't have gotten the Harperites their headlines.

According to evidence heard in court, our aspiring jihadis lived lives of utter despair. They couldn't keep a job or an apartment, and often couldn't even feed themselves. These are the kind of people our police state hones in on and spends millions to frame up as terrorists?

Shame!

How to cut millions out of police budgets without really trying

Police department budgets have been much in the news of late. In fact, if you believe the bullshit, the Toronto Police Budget is so wildly out of control it threatens to bankrupt the city. Most of this budget hysteria is of course carefully crafted propaganda designed to soften up the citizenry to the desirability of turning well-paid unionized police jobs into poverty level bylaw enforcement officer jobs.

It's in that context that the revelations about the Nuttall-Korody case in Vancouver caught my eye. According to the CBC, Vancouver PD  paid out almost a million in overtime to officers working on the Nuttall-Korody entrapment project.

But that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg! The CBC story reveals that there were over 240 officers working on this file at peak entrapment moments! While there's no detailed breakdown, it's obvious that just the "investigation" phase of this project ran into the tens of millions of dollars.

Then of course there was the lengthy trial itself, which ran into further millions, and assuming our "terrorists" are now sent to the big house for lengthy sentences, we can spend multiple further millions providing their room and board.

If you've read anything at all about these two sad-sack "terrorists" you'll realize that they were a couple of losers at the end of their string, easily strung along in this great terror conspiracy they were unwittingly being woven into. "Unwittingly" would be the key term here - what a pair of dimwits!

These were desperate down-on-their-luck people; easy prey for the grandiose scheme they were entrapped in. Had but a small fraction of the resources devoted to their entrapment been made available for their upliftment, Korody and Nuttall might have been able to make their lives manageable.

But then we wouldn't have this politically expedient terrorist threat!

In Toronto, no one knows how many millions were spent out of the police budget to frame up the "Toronto 18." A couple of professional Muslim informants made out like bandits in that case, netting millions for their undercover (ie frame-up) work reprogramming a gang of paintballers into wannabe terrorists. Presumably that case sucked up even more police budget than the Nuttall - Korody case.

Then you have your VIA RAIL terrorists, wherein multiple further millions of police budget were squandered in nailing a mentally ill guy and his opportunistic sidekick, all for the sake of convincing the public that we have oh so much to fear!

So here's the essence of my plan to save police departments many millions of dollars; if your terror "sting" investigations require dozens or even hundreds of officers working months or possibly years to coax along some gullible marks to commit some indictable offence, they're probably no threat to the public to begin with.

Bill C-51 will just drag Canada deeper into the world of state-sponsored terror

Interesting story afloat today about whether the foreign agent arrested in Turkey on suspicion of shepherding foreigners into the Islamic State might have links to CSIS, Canada's spy agency. For my money, the weasel-speak coming out of Ottawa as the Harperites deny these shocking allegations is less than reassuring.

The previous day saw a story in the Toronto Star detailing the collusion between CSIS and the FBI in their attempted set up of the so-called VIA Rail bombers, especially the third member of this "terror team," one Ahmed Abassi. Most of that story was made public by the Washington Post last summer. What should give Canadians pause is how closely not only CSIS, but virtually any federal government department, is willing to bend to the interests of Washington.

The FBI informant obviously had an unlimited budget available with which to entrap Abassi into a terror plot, and was allowed to freely operate in Canada by Canadian authorities across the security, immigration, and policing spectrum.

All of this happened without the benefit of Bill C-51, which will enhance the power of our security state.

To keep us safer, of course...

In reply to critics, the Harper gang points to the robust civilian oversight of out security apparatus.

Ya, right!

Here's the guy personally appointed by Big Steve to head up civilian oversight of CSIS from 2008 to 2011.

That's what "robust civilian oversight" looks like to Stephen Harper.

Reassuring, eh?

The way I read it, under C-51, the next time this blog points out that Hamas is the democratically elected government of Gaza and Israel is morally obliged to negotiate with them, I could be found guilty of promoting terrorism. Hamas is on Ottawa's official list of terrorist entities, democracy be damned!

Casual encounters with Homeland Security

Here's a perfect example of mission creep.

Or maybe a perfect example of creeper missions.

Either way, you have to wonder if it's the place for the Department of Homeland Security.

As you recall, Homeland Security was invented round the time of the 9/11 attacks on the Homeland. Coincidentally, that was also around the time when anyone anywhere first began to refer to the USA as the "Homeland."

Before that it was just America.

"Homeland" always had a bit of a Reifenstahlian ring to it, at least to my ear. "Homeland" has a statist odor usually associated with totalitarian dictatorships of one stripe or another.

Let's circle the wagons and defend the Homeland!

The mandate for America's Department of Homeland Security is to keep America safe from internal threats. And God knows, that as the last bastion for freedom on this planet, and an open society to boot, lots of threats may have slipped in while America was busy watching the Super Bowl or something.

So what is Homeland Security doing these days to keep the Homeland safe?

According to this story, they're keeping America safe by posting bogus adverts on Canadian websites hinting that there may be under-age nooky available in the USA!

Sure enough, Kuldip Singh Mahal, a doomed schmuck from BC, sees the ad and takes the bait.

Now, I don't mean to raise the ire of the forces of political correctitude, but just looking at the guy's name, it seems to me he comes from one of those cultures where their concept of "age of consent" bears little or no resemblance to ours.

The dude is looking for a bride! Ya, he's 47, the potential bride is 12, but that's how they roll in some of those foreign cultures. Why is it our job to judge that?

More importantly, why has it become part of Homeland Security's mandate to entrap foreigners into fanciful child exploitation cases?

There is absolutely nothing about this case that contributes in any way to keeping America safe from the scourge of international terror.

Seems Homeland Security has strayed way beyond its original mandate.
