What my sources tell me about the Ottawa protests

I hear they hired on a Toronto cop who was never gonna rise to senior management in Toronto, to be the new police chief in Ottawa, mainly on account of his rep as a bully.

I also hear that the protest movement is riddled with off-duty cops, retired cops, army reservists, retired army brass, and a goodly cross-section of ordinary Canadians.

The one thing they have in common is they are beyond fed up with being talked down to by the likes of Justin Trudeau.

Who can blame them?

Latest I heard was the loose-knit "leadership consortium" of the protest movement had agreed on Friday to evacuate the rest of the protesters.

Then the new sheriff showed up to spin headlines for the narrative managers at CBC. 

The leadership consortium was promptly taken into custody.

What the wokesters at Brodie Fenlon's woke CBC don't understand, is that even their presumed captive audience in the brown suburbs of the GTA are turning against their narrative.

Patrick Brown was briefly leader of the Ontario conservative party.

He was rail-roaded because he wasn't woke enough.

So he went into municipal politics, and became the mayor of the brownest constituency in Canada, Brampton.

Go figure!

Whoopi makes an oopsie

B-list Hollywood has-been and current MSNBC regular Whoopi Goldberg made quite a slip of the tongue the other day, something to the effect the holocaust not being a biggie, because after all, it was just white folks killing other white folks.

Seems it slipped Whoopi's mind for an unfortunate moment that one of those two groups of people happens to own the media-entertainment space. That's the space that butters Whoopi's bread.

Now that's an oopsie! If you're looking for Whoopi next week, check the C-list...

Having said that, I must say she has a point. While she herself has claimed to be Jewish, we, and obviously she, generally consider Jews to be white. Sure, there's a few who look like the racist caricature of a stereotypical Jew, but generally not. 

You can't go by the name, either. Look at my name, for example. Neumann is most often a Lutheran name, but there's plenty of Catholics and Jews with the same handle.

As for the "white" thing, that's a very malleable concept. There was a time when mainstream opinion, which was then Anglo-Saxon opinion, held that Greeks and Italians weren't white.

Even the Irish were suspect, at least the Catholic ones, which was always a real head-scratcher to me. How could those Irish Catholics and Irish Protestants spend decades, even centuries, at one another's throats, when they all love Jesus?

Not only that, but, at least to my eye, they were all white!

Whoopi will soon enough see the error of her ways, and provide us a grovelling walk-back.

Washington Capitals star Joel Ward spoke out about racism in hockey years ago

It took one tweet from never-quite-made-it NHLer Akim Aliu to shine a light on racism in hockey.

Joel Ward actually had a half-decent career in the NHL. And while he was never a "star," he certainly had a starring moment in that Boston series.

Joel passed through Owen Sound as he was coming up, and I had occasion to chat with him now and then. Quite a well-rounded young man by my estimation.

There may be folks who want to dismiss Aliu as a case of sour grapes; he never quite made it, so he blames racism.

Joel made it, and here's what he was saying about racism in the NHL years ago.

There's nothing new about racism in hockey.

On the other hand, hockey likely isn't any more racist than the society it's a part of.

What you don't see while you're watching 24/7 Trump news

The New York Times had a story the other day about how the Reverend Al Sharpton and Donny J are the best of "frenemies."

Of course they are! Both of them have always been ruthless publicity hounds more than willing to butter one another's bread for mutual advantage. They have a lot in common!



Photos like this wouldn't have raised an eyebrow before Trump declared his candidacy for the 2016 election.

Then Trump won that election. Then he became a racist. Then he introduced lying to US politics. What a disaster!

It's been a godsend for American media of course. They quickly made the man they suddenly love to hate, after thirty years of obsequious slobbering over him, the number one news story all day every day. He's been a ratings bonanza for them.

American mainstream media obsessively focus on largely irrelevant "outrages" perpetrated by the liar in chief. So he called Baltimore a "rat-infested dump?" Cue a thousand hysterical op-eds denouncing his egregious racism!

That is neither news nor racism. Plenty of folks have made the same observation before Trump. But while nothingburger stories like that hog the headlines, what are you missing?

How many hysterical op-eds did you see when Trump made Jerusalem the home of the US embassy?

How many hysterical op-eds did you see when Trump gave the Golan to Israel?

How many hysterical op-eds did you see when Trump gave himself and his billionaire buddies (the same crew who own that mainstream media we're talking about) the biggest tax break in history?

How many hysterical op-eds have you seen about America's military budget going up by almost 50% since Trump was elected?

Next to none, I'll wager.


Wake up America! Your "free press" buries the important stuff while burying you under an onslaught of fear-mongering bullshit.

Plagiarism not a big deal (if the plagiarist is white)

By all accounts Chris Spence was a highly regarded administrator. He recently lost his job as Director of Education at the Toronto District School Board.

The reason? He got busted for plagiarism.

Today the Bluewater District School Board, a couple of hours away, announced a new Director of Education, a long-serving superintendent who, just a few years ago, was found guilty of plagiarism by the same College of Teachers that revoked Spence's teaching credentials.

The plagiarist who lost his job as Director of Education is black.

The plagiarist who got promoted to Director of Education is white.

Go figure...

Hey Rodriguez, where's your green card?

It's amazing what passes for racism these days.

Where's your green card?

When I was a kid the white boys on the north side of the street used to yell "hey Paki, where's your camel?" to the East Indian side of the street.

That all sorted itself out. The white kids went to the factories that closed down twenty years before retirement.

The East Indian kids went to university. They're all tenured professors now.

That's an over-generalization of course. I do know of a couple of white kids who went on to become tenured professors.

And there was a couple of Pakistani kids who actually worked in the hands-on parts of the shops I used to work in. Pakistani welders. Who can even imagine such a thing?

But the racial stereo-types live on. All Jews are rich. Blacks are lazy and prone to addictions. Native American's are lazier than Blacks. Chinese are hard-working and frugal. White males get all the good jobs.

And so on...

There's always the guy who'll prove the stereo-type right of course. But by and large, my observation of a fair bit of life has led me to conclude that people are people.

Doesn't matter if you came here from England or Ireland or Nigeria or Germany or Pakistan. You came to make a better life for yourself and your children.

Get on with it.
