Canada takes anti-Roma racial profiling to Budapest

The CBC has a telling story on view today about the lengths the Harper gang is going to keep Roma out of the country.

Do a little research and it won't take you long to discover that Roma people pretty much get the dirty end of the stick in many European "Nations of Virtue." Hungary is one of the least hospitable countries on the continent for the Roma. Indeed, before Harper and company got tough on crime and brownish people, Roma were often successful in petitioning Canada for refugee status.

Guess those days are over!

Seems the Canadian Border Services Agency has a team in Budapest to screen Roma who are lined up at the airport for flights to Canada. They can have every relevant travel document in perfect order but be denied their trip simply on some CBSA flunky's suspicion that they could be Roma.

If they were doing this in Canada it would be considered a disgrace. It would violate the Charter of Rights. This policy would be facing multiple court challenges in short order.

So why are we doing it in Hungary?

I guess "Canadian values" don't travel well.

Syrian and Iraqi refugees can immigrate to Canada under new "Spy on ISIS, get a Visa" program

Seems that some would-be immigrants to Canada are being offered a new top secret program not listed on the Government of Canada's official immigration website.

Here's a catchy headline from a Turkish news site; Spy's statement reveals his links with Canada and ISIS. Seems the poor schmuck Mohammed al-Rashed was led to believe, by the Canadian embassy, that all he had to do was indulge in a little bit of people smuggling and a little bit of money laundering and a Canadian visa would be his! Instead, he's cooling his heels in an Istanbul jail.

I'm looking forward to hearing some hard-hitting questions on the matter in the House of Commons.

Canada must freeze immigration and kill the Temporary Foreign Worker program

Haroon Siddiqui drops the gloves on Jason Kenney in his Toronto Star column today.

That's about as concise a summary of Minister Kenney's failings as one could hope for.

Unfortunately for all of us, these failings aren't seen as such by the Harper gang and their supporters.

In fact, the reason Kenney isn't fired is because he's done Canadian employers a great service by flooding the country with cheap foreign labour.

That's not failure.

That makes Jason Kenney a roaring success!

Canada reminds immigrants that honor killings not allowed

The city of Gatineau has published a handy primer on Canadian values for recent immigrants.

Newcomers are reminded that the sexual abuse of their children is not permitted under Canadian law, nor are forced labor or willful malnutrition.

Immigrants coming to Canada with hopes that they would be allowed to starve their children will be disappointed.

They will likewise be disappointed that Canadians take a dim view of female genital mutilation. While Canadians generally twist themselves into knots to accommodate a multiplicity of ethnicities, someone obviously felt the ground rules needed to be spelled out.

Say goodbye to forced marriage, new immigrants. Oh, and in Canada “getting stoned” means something different than it meant in the old country.

Welcome to Canada. Once you get past the insulting paternalism it’s actually quite a pleasant place to live.
