Cognitive dissonance and our "ironclad" support for Israel

The Freeland-Trudeau team like to go out of their way to pose as Trump-defying humanists, stalwarts of the international anti-Trump resistance. That's a pose meant primarily for the domestic audience, where pretend resistance scores a lot of political points among great swathes of the populace.

In the real world, we're 100% in with the Israel-KSA-USA axis of virtue. How else to explain our dithering over our biggest arms sale ever? How else to explain Chrystia's grovelling performance in Jerusalem last week?

The IDF turkey shoot at the Gaza fence continues week in and week out, with nary a peep from our dynamic duo of "feminist foreign policy," save for that one ill-advised slip of the tongue on Trudeau's part back in May, when he accidentally misspoke about the need for an impartial inquiry into the IDF's multiple murders of unarmed Palestinians. That brief outburst of sanity went missing immediately.

Maybe Kushner made a phone call.

No, we're proud to offer our "unwavering and ironclad support" for the Trump-loving Likudniks who are systematically destroying Israel and turning it into a loathsome apartheid pariah.

Public Security Minister Erdan eases gun restrictions for Israeli Jews

That's not quite what this Haaretz headline is telling us, but everybody who is within knife-thrust distance of their common sense knows Gilad Erdan is not talking about Israeli Arabs.

Yup, we gotta ease up on gun restrictions for Israeli Jews (but certainly not for those Israeli Arabs) 'cause goodness knows, those knife-wielding kafirs are coming for the Jews, not the Arabs.

Even though they're all nominally "Israeli."

Some are more nominal than others.

Every (Jewish) Israeli deserves to have a gun to defend themselves from (Arab) Israeli stone-throwers and knife-wavers.

The Arab citizens of Israel, not so much.

Having an honest discussion about why those degenerates might be throwing stones or waving knives is of course off the table...

...and so the long journey into darkness continues...

What we're not watching while we're watching Ferguson in flames

There are no stats on how often white cops have shot down Black Americans.

Nobody knows...

Suffice to say, this is not the first time.

But it should make you wonder why this time, whether it's more or less than 1,756,342, it's getting this massive media attention.

To the think tank here at Falling Downs, it looks like a "public spectacle" that's been cooked up by various levels of government, with the full connivance of the usual social justice entrepreneurs like Reverend Al, et al.

And of course, the main stream media are all aboard, as they inevitably are in every government initiative designed to take your eye off the ball.

Here are just a few stories we're not seeing while we're focussed on this completely routine cop-killing that has mysteriously hogged the spotlight for months:
Those are but four stories we're ignoring, and there are many more from Ukraine to Libya to the farthest reaches of the American Empire, that Americans ignore at their peril.

Canada gives up on Human Rights and Democracy

Way back in the '80's then PM Lyin' Brian Mulroney created the International Center for Human Rights and Democracy. Mulroney's plan was that the agency would, although government funded, be a non-partisan tool for the promotion of human rights and democracy around the world.

Old Brian had a lot of plans. While most of them involved the exchange of cash in unmarked envelopes, every once in a while he came up with an idea that bought him a bit of cred in your more progressive constituencies.

He was a vocal proponent of the Boycott South Africa movement to dislodge apartheid, for example.

The Center for Human Rights and Democracy was another example.

Turn the clock ahead twenty-five years and you've got a brave new world. Apartheid in South Africa is a relic of the past. Do-gooders these days are more concerned about apartheid in Israel.

And in Ottawa you've got a brand new gang of cut-throat conservatives who aren't interested in making friends in progressive circles. So when the Harper gang realized that there were people, high up people in the Center for Human Rights and Democracy, who dared voice support for critics of Israel's occupation of the "disputed" occupied territories, the fur flew.

Harper parachuted in a few senior managers who could be counted on to faithfully parrot any and all Netanyahu talking points. Chaos ensued.

Having successfully crippled the Center for Human Rights and Democracy, today the Harper gang announced the next logical step. They're going to put it out of its misery altogether.

Foreign Minister John Baird made the announcement. Last time we heard from him he was touring the Holy Land with his personal challabist Rabbi in tow.

Today was a good day for the Rabbi.
