"Fringe minority" has more support than PM Fluffy

Looks like our extra-woke leader has woked up and smelled the coffee, or perhaps the soy Espresso Borgia.

Trudeau uncorked his Valentine's Day surprise - martial law in Canada - just as the Freedom Convoy protest was fizzling out. We supposedly have checks and balances in place to prevent the unwarranted imposition of such draconian powers.

In the first place, they need to be approved by parliament. Trudeau skirted that requirement by deferring debate in the House of Commons, because while the police were exercising their new-found not-yet-approved powers, it was too dangerous for parliamentarians to go to work!

Then they need to be approved by the senate.

The House belatedly, and to their shame, approved the emergency measures on Monday.

Also on Monday, although the alleged emergency was obviously over, Trudeau was still ramping up the booga-booga.

The terrorists may have left Ottawa, but he knew there were sleeper cells lurking in truck-stop parking lots across the nation.

Fast forward 36 hours...

The senate is in the midst of debating the matter. It's not going well, and whadya know, Fluffy executes a complete 180 since Monday!

What changed?

As Candace Bergen pointed out, there's been a flood of international ridicule. Rex Murphy did a scorching interview with Jordan Petersen that has garnered almost two million views in days. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association announced a legal challenge.

The tide of opprobrium was washing away Fluffy's most precious dreams. Sec Gen of the UN? Boss of NATO? Head of World Bank?

No way.

Ixnay.

Go away...

Goodbye PM Fluffy!

Hello PM Frida... let the good times roll!

Dieter's guide to mindful living

Somewhere out of the depths of the delirium that has enveloped me this past week, I recall the following conversation fragment; "If it was called Dieter's Blog you'd get tons of traffic from folks obsessed with their diets."

I'm thinking, wtf, I'm into the mindfulness thing anyway... I mean, how many times do you find a guru who advises you to "shit mindfully?"

I could be on to something here. If Jordan Peterson can channel Ann Landers, maybe I can be the reincarnation of Swami Babba Rum Raisin?

We'll see how the clicking public feels about that fetching title.

Educators stupify Toronto

I don't know if anybody noticed, but 14,000 education researchers were partying it up in Toronto this week. Good to see OISE taking a leading role in this shindig. As a former teacher I can attest that OISE is where a lot of brilliant shit that'll never work in the classroom originates.

Take a gander at the American Educational Research Association website. Look around a bit. Get to know them...

I don't want to be judgemental, but I have a hunch you'd find a lot of folks there who would be the type to protest a Jordan Peterson appearance.

I watched a couple of Jordan Peterson videos once just to see what the fuss was about. What is this guy, the Ann Landers of the 21st century? He makes $70,000 a month for this from his YouTube channel?

People must be desperate.

And I'll admit I have no clue what cultural Marxism is. Does it have anything to do with old-fashioned non-cultural Marxism?

Anyway, as I was rooting around on the website of the AERA, it occurred to me that they might want to incorporate this old post from the archives into one of their seminars.

Counter Counterpunch

From time to time folks who generally find themselves in agreement with the opinions I promote on this blog ask me why I'm not on Counterpunch.

My stock answer is that since Counterpunch is where I steal most of my ideas, it would be redundant to be there.

Plus, they've never invited me.

So fuck Counterpunch.

But I've noticed that there's a wellspring of anti-Counterpunch discourse welling up from allegedly leftish points of view.

Hmm...

Maybe the Anti-Punchers have a point...

After all, just today I read a story there that was, at least sort-of, pro Jordan Peterson.

Not only that, but there were two or three writers who found something kind to say about Trump's Korean gambit.

What the fuck has come over that St. Clair twat? Why is he allowing this proto-fascist shit on his website?

I don't see the problem. As far as I can tell, Jordan Peterson is the Ann Landers of the 21st century.

And so far as Trump's Korea gambit goes, how is it unreasonable that condo-hustler Trump would rather build hotels in North Korea than nuke the place?

While I'm pretty sure that more condos on the beaches aren't the solution to anything, I'm 100% sure that's way better than nuclear war.

Jordan Peterson shows his feminine side

To be honest, I'd never heard of Peterson until those folks who get overwrought about his lectures made him an international celeb with their attempts to shout him down.

For what? For filling the void left in our culture after the death of Ann Landers? I mean, "stand up straight and pull your shoulders back" is the kind of advice your Auntie Flo gave you when you were fifteen and she was worried you were gonna turn out a callow schmuck.

Look people in the eye... a firm handshake makes a good first impression... yadayadayada, heard it all long before Peterson.

What baffles me is that the guy allegedly trousers tens of thousands of dollars per MONTH for these inanities. Seriously?

It must baffle Pankaj Mishra too. Mishra's been a driven self-promoter for a quarter century, and while he's achieved a certain renown as the exotic "other" in certain high-brow-lit circles, he's certainly nowhere near tens of thousands of dollars per month. That obviously burns his ass big time.

So he struck back. Check out his no-holds-barred take-down of Peterson in The New York Review of Books. I doubt that paid more than a few hundred bucks, but it must have felt good!

So how does Peterson respond? Does he challenge him to a duel? Does he threaten him with a knuckle sandwich or a kick in the balls or an ice-pick to the temple?

No. Jordan Peterson, champion of the classical virtues of manhood, responds with name-calling and a threat to slap Mishra... if he was there, of course.

Dude, that sounds kinda girlie to me.
