There was a Formula One race in Texas today, and I don't even know who won. Nor do I care.
That should concern the big dogs of motorsports.
I've been an F-1 fan since the days of Jimmy Clark.
The big dogs in F-1 are now spending upwards of 200 millions per season to be part of Bernie's show. They keep on doing it, so presumably they find it worthwhile.
But there's a whole lot of folks who are losing interest, and a whole lot of F-1 teams that are ready to bow out.
Here's where the Big Bernie and Johnny Death show could catch a wave; make F-1 about racing cars that DON'T run on fossil fuels.
Ban Ki-moon would be all aboard, especially after today's denunciation of fossil fuels. It's all about the global economic collapse due to climate change, don't ya know.
Nobody is better positioned to change the conversation on climate change and fossil fuels than Big Bernie and Johnny Death.
You go, boys!

Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One corporate welfare machine
Bernie Ecclestone is a billionaire today because he figured out a really unique way to lift public money into private pockets, especially his own.
Formula One racing.
The city of Montreal just signed a deal with Big Bernie that will see over $200 million Canadian taxpayer dollars go to subsidizing Bernie's F-1 circus.
Doesn't Montreal have more important priorities?

Why Montreal should just say "no" to Bernie Eccelstone and his F1 circus
The Canadian edition of Bernie's F1 circus goes this weekend, and Canadian media are full of angst about whether Bernie's circus will come back next year.
A goodly chunk of the F1 circus now hails from what were not too long ago referred to as "developing countries."
There is a reason for that.
If a few of the locals were to declare an independent state up here in the Bruce in the next six months, Bernie would be more than happy to slot in a Formula One race next year provided we paid an adequate fee for the privilege.
We could be hosting Wiarton Willie's Grand Prix, just like that!
As long as we paid enough money up front.
Apparently Bernie and the F1 juggernaut are not happy with the money they are wringing out of Montreal, said to be in the range of 15 millions for the privilege of hosting a Grand Prix.
It is rumored that virtually every other host nation pays more.
That's a pretty sweet arrangement for Bernie's F1 circus.
Here's a thought; why don't the mayors of all the F1 host cities get together and tell Big Bernie that he can run his races in whatever cities HE pays the most to race in. After all, without a track, F1 would cease to exist.
It would seem much more advantageous to the city of Montreal if F1 was paying them instead of the other way round.

Big Bernie and Johnny Death court disaster with their pig-headed arrogance
There is no legitimate reason for F-1 to proceed with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Todt and Ecclestone want to maintain the charade that their Formula One circus is above or beyond politics.
When it takes thousands of troops to keep rioting mobs from disrupting a race event, it has not only become political, but the race organizers have effectively chosen sides.
While the House of Khalifa craves the aura of first-world legitimacy that they think the race bestows on their kingdom, the reality is that this controversy is delegitimizing Formula One itself.
From a purely business point of view that should be enough for Todt and Ecclestone to cancel the race.
No politics required.

Canada pension plan embraces Big Bernie and Johnny Death
Oh my f-ing gawd. Have things actually come to this?
The Canada Pension Plan is putting it's faith in Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt, the masterminds of Bernie's multi-billion dollar car racing empire.
My pension now rides with Sebastien Vettel and Lewis Hamilton?
Fuck me.
Much as I'm a fan of anything with a motor that can go fast, it had never occurred to me that someday I'd be banking on it.
How can such a thing even be imagined?
I have to say I am struck dumb.
I'll get back to you tomorrow...
