Just ignore that mushroom cloud; the show must go on

I see where those nasty Houti rebels in Yemen have sparked up some serious fireworks at an Aramco oil storage facility near Jeddah. That's where the Saudi Formula One race is supposed to happen tomorrow.

F-1 is a multi-billion dollar international media spectacle. Countries actually pay big bucks to F-1 for the privilege of hosting a race. It's not about the race, it's about the PR.

Those dastardly Houtis, supported by the evil ayatollahs in Iran, have attempted to pee on the party with this cowardly attack.

Just imagine the PR coup they'd have pulled off if they could get the Saudi Grand Prix cancelled!

Since the fireball over those blazing storage tanks was visible to the drivers doing practice laps for Sunday's race, there was some reticence in the ranks.

After an emergency drivers' meeting, where it was explained to the drivers who butters their bread, it was agreed.

The show must go on!

How Johnny Death & Co. could make F-1 relevant again

There was a Formula One race in Texas today, and I don't even know who won. Nor do I care.

That should concern the big dogs of motorsports.

I've been an F-1 fan since the days of Jimmy Clark.

The big dogs in F-1 are now spending upwards of 200 millions per season to be part of Bernie's show. They keep on doing it, so presumably they find it worthwhile.

But there's a whole lot of folks who are losing interest, and a whole lot of F-1 teams that are ready to bow out.

Here's where the Big Bernie and Johnny Death show could catch a wave; make F-1 about racing cars that DON'T run on fossil fuels.

Ban Ki-moon would be all aboard, especially after today's denunciation of fossil fuels. It's all about the global economic collapse due to climate change, don't ya know.

Nobody is better positioned to change the conversation on climate change and fossil fuels than Big Bernie and Johnny Death.

You go, boys!

Canada pension plan embraces Big Bernie and Johnny Death

Oh my f-ing gawd. Have things actually come to this?

The Canada Pension Plan is putting it's faith in Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt, the masterminds of Bernie's multi-billion dollar car racing empire.

My pension now rides with Sebastien Vettel and Lewis Hamilton?

Fuck me.

Much as I'm a fan of anything with a motor that can go fast, it had never occurred to me that someday I'd be banking on it.

How can such a thing even be imagined?

I have to say I am struck dumb.

I'll get back to you tomorrow...

It's a Red Bull world

Anybody see that Red Bull infomercial on CNN this afternoon, where that Felix fellow jumped from a weather balloon from 24 miles up?

What a coincidence that this event occurred on the same day that the Red Bull F-1 team's Sebastien Vettel won the Korean Gran Prix.

This afternoon there was a BMX event on that had the Red Bull logo all over it.

Red Bull has come from nowhere to be one of the most iconic brands. It's absolute marketing genius.

That's the kind of marketing success I hope to duplicate with the Big Ass Chair Company. Sponsorship  of sports and culture events as well as one-off publicity stunts like the big jump today. Imagine if Baumgartner has made his leap from a Big Ass chair tethered to that weather balloon. You'd see the Big Ass logo on hundreds of channels worldwide for the better part of the afternoon.

The Big Ass Racing Team is a natural too, although I'm thinking NASCAR might be a better fit than Formula One. Those teams are really hurting for sponsorship money these days, so we can probably get somebody signed up for a couple of free chairs.

The possibilities are endless...

The Big Ass Bass Tournament.

The Big Ass Blues Festival.

The Big Ass Slam Poetry Championship...

Hell, all I gotta do is get going on the chairs!

Max Mosley sues Google to save his reputation

When Adolph Hitler was the guest of honor at your parents' wedding, I can imagine that protecting one's reputation is a steep up-hill slog that's never quite over.

Mosley doesn't exactly do himself any favors though. Who would remember his afternoon of wanky-panky with those five hookers a few years ago if he didn't keep dropping his legal briefs all over the place?

He's dropping them in Hamburg now in an attempt to force Google Europe to block any internet searches that might link him to that News of the World front page expose.

Mosley nazi orgy. Nothing. Never happened.

F-1 boss hooker hijinx. Erased from history.

Mosley spanks naked call-girls. Who's Mosley?

Mosley gets whipped. Couldn't be that Max Mosley, could it? The one with too much money and too much spare time?

Gotta run. Apparently Mosley's attorney is on the phone.
