Debunked in Germany, still golden at the CBC

Last November the German news magazine Der Spiegel ran an investigative story that exposed Bill Browder's yarn about the demise of his "lawyer," Sergei Magnitsky, as, well, a yarn. Browder did the predictable huffing and puffing and filed a complaint with the German Press Council.

The Press Council eventually tossed Browder's complaint, citing the many contradictions in and the essentially unverifiable nature of much of the narrative that Browder has promoted over the years. In other words... liar liar pants on fire. I thought the fallout from this episode would blow a sufficiently large hole in Browder's credibility that his career as a Russia expert and Putin critic would be over.

I was wrong. I nearly fell off my chair this morning when Browder showed up on CBC's Day Six as, you guessed it, world renowned Russia expert, Putin critic, and human rights activist!


This doesn't do anything to enhance the credibility of the CBC.

Shame!

German Press Council tosses complaint brought by Bill Browder after his Magnitsky fable debunked

The German Press Council today rejected Bill Browder's complaint against newsmagazine Der Spiegel. Browder had brought the complaint in December after the magazine published a story largely debunking Browder's version of what happened in the case of Sergei Magnitsky, a former Browder employee who died in a Moscow prison in 2009.

According to Browder, Magnitsky had unearthed a $300million tax fraud being perpetrated by a couple of crooked cops, who had him killed in prison to shut him up. It's a yarn that fell on receptive ears in Western capitals, where politicians will eagerly swallow any nonsense they can use to smear Putin.



That's our former Foreign Minister with her "old friend" Bullshittin' Bill Browder in 2016. Meanwhile, Browder has been found guilty of tax evasion and fraud in Russia, which he claims was a politically motivated hoax intended to intimidate him. Freeland was one of many who should have looked into Browder's story more closely before falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

That's according to German news site Spiegel, who talked to lots of anonymous sources to get their story.

You'd think Bashar has his hands more than full without trying that kind of monkey business, wouldn't you? After all, that four year "Arab Spring" we sprung on him has pretty much had him in a corner, hasn't it?

The folks at German news magazine Der Spiegel claim that the NSA has been vacuuming up the data trail left not only by the government of China but the upper echelon of China's "private sector" as well, especially China's answer to Microsoft, Huawei.

Frankly, I think they get the lower echelon as well. In fact, I think it's more than obvious that they vacuum up EVERYTHING!

Maybe that's why we sent Michelle over there, with her kids and her mom. Nobody gonna suspect that little family unit of being up to no good!
