CBC buries story of Supreme Court Emergency Powers decision

If you recall, on February 14 of '22 Justin Trudeau gifted us a Valentine; martial law, by declaring the Emergency Act. For the next 30 days Canada was officially a police state, all because of a bunch of truck-drivers who, according to Justin, entertained unacceptable ideas. Not only that, the ruckus their children created on the bouncy castles was a life-threatening inconvenience to the tens of thousands of civil servants who were working from their downtown Ottawa condos thanks to the covid shutdowns. Those are Justin's base, and he literally declared war on their behalf. Fast forward a couple years and a lower court finds the declaration of emergency powers was unwarranted and unconstitutional. Of course the government appealed that decision. Fast forward a couple more years and today the Supreme Court was due to render the final judgement on the matter. I was keen to see how that turned out, so this afternoon I checked out CBC News. Top story, in fact the first seven stories, were all related to Carney's China trip. Scroll down... scroll down... keep scrolling... Oh! Here we are, 18 stories in! Only after we are apprised of the latest tidbits about Mountie malfeacance, ICE protests, Kashechewan evacuation, Bo Bichette signing with the Mets for $126 million, and a rogue sea lion taking up residence in Howe Sound, does the CBC see fit to inform us that the Supremes sided with the lower court! Here's something else you might recall. The CBC's coverage of the "Freedom Convoy" was a travesty of journalism and an insult to Canadians. For two weeks their team in Ottawa chased alleged swastika sightings around downtown Ottawa while studiously avoiding any attempt to address the issues. Nobody worked harder to sell Emergency Powers, ie War Measures, than the CBC. I'm not surprised they want to bury their shame.

Kenya's cops go where RCMP fear to tread

Canada has had an RCMP-led police training mission in Haiti since 1993. The longer we train them, the worse things get! And we were surprised these jokers couldn’t figure out how to clear the Freedom Convoy out of Ottawa? But they’re breathing a sigh of relief in Haiti today. Two years after the Haitian government asked for international help to combat rampant gang violence, the first plane-load of Kenyan police arrived in the country. Kenya is leading the Multinational Security Support Mission to restore law and order, good governance, and possibly even democracy, to the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The glory of leading this mission could have been ours. When Geriatric Joe visited Ottawa in 2023, Haiti was on the agenda. There was much speculation we would jump at the opportunity, as we’re generally keen to curry favour with Washington, but surprisingly, PM Fluffy turned it down. I for one applauded that decision. After failing for over thirty years to whip the Haitian police into shape, we’re willing to admit we’re not up to the job. In order to make amends, Justin did however announce a $100 million investment in the Haitian National Police at the time. Now that the Kenyans have arrived, I’m sure we’ll soon see good results for our money! On the same day, back in Nairobi, mobs of disgruntled ingrates with no respect for democracy, a veritable Kenyan Freedom Convoy, stormed the parliament and tried to burn it down. Kenyan police shot 23 of them dead. They would have got those truckers outta Ottawa pronto!

Court rules Trudeau's use of Emergency Act on Freedom Convoy violated Charter of Rights

I’m guessing there’s a whole lotta irritable bowel syndrome going around PM Fluffy’s inner circle tonight. The Emergency Act is Canada’s version of martial law. It suspends your civil rights. It essentially puts democracy on pause for temporary tyranny. That’s why the bar must be very high indeed. Otherwise, some feckless weenie, like, oh… a self confessed admirer of Mao and Fidel, might find himself tempted to invoke it against a bunch of smelly working-class folks with unacceptable opinions. Which is exactly what happened. The court found the inconvenience suffered by civil servants living in Ottawa, working from home on their laptops, did not rise to the level of a national emergency. That strikes me as an all-too-rare case of the court making a sensible decision, which is why Fluffy’s gang immediately announced an appeal! These idiots are determined to give Poilievre the next election. The reason that convoy happened when it did doesn’t get much attention in media. By early 2022 it was widely believed the pandemic was winding down. Things were opening up all over. That’s when Trudeau’s government mandated vaccinations for people who cross the border, like the tens of thousands of truckers who crossed that border every day long before there was a vaccine. They literally risked their lives to make sure our grocery stores could keep selling food. For a brief moment in time, our front-line workers were heroes! That was indeed a brief moment, and an aberration. Politicians went insane with empathy. Doug Ford promised sick days for PSWs, if such a thing can be imagined! But that was then, and this is now. All those goodies that were promised are long forgotten. PSWs still stitch together a poverty wage by working 4 hr shifts in multiple retirement homes. All those homes were getting hvac upgrades! Everybody was gonna have paid sick days! Here’s a thought from the late JFK; “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.” I don’t see anything “revolutionary” about the Freedom Convoy or its organizers. The fact that Trudeau found their protests so threatening that he invoked martial law, puts him firmly on the side of those who make violent revolution inevitable.

Canada's leading newspaper spreading Russian propaganda

If you’ve been following the Globe and Mail's coverage of the war in Ukraine, you’ll know that it’s mostly a non-stop stream of pro-Ukranian propaganda. Fascists in Ukraine? Nothing but Russian disinformation. Putin has been increasingly cornered and desperate since early March, when he first started running out of missiles. His army is poorly trained, under-equipped, and in disarray. At every turn, we are assured that just a few more months and a few billions more in weapons and every square inch of Ukraine will be free again. Today we get a report from Chief Internet Correspondent Mark MacKinnon, who has been on the ground at the front, and if not the “front” per se, then at least in a pub in Kyiv. There he encountered a “tattoo-covered Canadian fighter, who drunkenly gave several fascist salutes in the middle of a Kyiv pub while talking loudly about his hatred for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.” Sounds like the guy they were looking for at the Ottawa trucker’s protest. He was in Ukraine all along! But seriously, Mark, it sounds like you’re parroting Putin’s talking points. Unless the only fascists in Ukraine are the Canadian volunteers. Later in the story, we meet another Canadian fighter, a CAF vet with combat experience in Afghanistan, who had this to say about his front line experience in Ukraine; “We don’t have air support here. We don’t have direct fire support. If I want to call in artillery here, I’m talking like in six or twelve hours I might get some artillery support.” Indeed. Pushing the Russians back for the past eight months without air cover or artillery support is a miracle of the highest order! Clearly, just a little more time and a few more billions in Western armaments, and Ukraine will be whole again!

Gov't workers don't want to go back to the office? Fire them!

What could be better than a well-paid job with generous benefits, pensions, and paid sick leave? How about a well-paid job with generous benefits, pensions, and paid sick leave that you can do from home in your pajamas? The CBC has a sob story on view about those hordes of government workers in Ottawa who are balking at returning to work. CBC, (where two thirds of their 3600 Ontario employees worked from home) feels their pain. Let’s not forget most of these folks are still reeling from the PTSD they got from those horn-tootin’ Truckers ‘o Terror. It’s no wonder they can’t leave the house! Or change outta their jammies… Wonder how many of those truckers have generous benefits, pensions, and paid sick leave?

"Fringe minority" has more support than PM Fluffy

Looks like our extra-woke leader has woked up and smelled the coffee, or perhaps the soy Espresso Borgia.

Trudeau uncorked his Valentine's Day surprise - martial law in Canada - just as the Freedom Convoy protest was fizzling out. We supposedly have checks and balances in place to prevent the unwarranted imposition of such draconian powers.

In the first place, they need to be approved by parliament. Trudeau skirted that requirement by deferring debate in the House of Commons, because while the police were exercising their new-found not-yet-approved powers, it was too dangerous for parliamentarians to go to work!

Then they need to be approved by the senate.

The House belatedly, and to their shame, approved the emergency measures on Monday.

Also on Monday, although the alleged emergency was obviously over, Trudeau was still ramping up the booga-booga.

The terrorists may have left Ottawa, but he knew there were sleeper cells lurking in truck-stop parking lots across the nation.

Fast forward 36 hours...

The senate is in the midst of debating the matter. It's not going well, and whadya know, Fluffy executes a complete 180 since Monday!

What changed?

As Candace Bergen pointed out, there's been a flood of international ridicule. Rex Murphy did a scorching interview with Jordan Petersen that has garnered almost two million views in days. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association announced a legal challenge.

The tide of opprobrium was washing away Fluffy's most precious dreams. Sec Gen of the UN? Boss of NATO? Head of World Bank?

No way.

Ixnay.

Go away...

Goodbye PM Fluffy!

Hello PM Frida... let the good times roll!

Justin saves democracy!

I'll leave it to posterity to determine if PM Fluffy jumped the shark with that Emergencies Act nonsense. Strikes me as a pretty big cannon to unleash just so you can charge the terrorist masterminds behind three weeks of Ottawa gridlock with... "counselling to commit mischief?"

Seriously?

Found a succinct essay at Dissident Voice that enumerates at least half a dozen times when the Emergencies Act, or its precursor, The War Measures Act, were NOT invoked when the country faced much greater peril, from the Winnipeg General Strike to the Mercier Bridge closure in 1990.

Then again, none of the PMs in those earlier emergencies were nick-named Fluffy. Apparently this pasty-faced clown (at least when he hasn't given himself that facial with the black shoe-polish he so loves) has something to prove.

Mussolini made the trains run on time.

Justin made the air horns stop their infernal terroristic tooting.

I'm not Fluffy, dammit, I'm tough as nails!

Elite Jewish scientists and medical experts condemn Trudeau's nazi smears against truckers protest - CBC silent

Interesting story out there around a group of Jewish scientists and medical experts who have signed an open letter to PM Fluffy. Here’s a list of the signatories.

FL6BJMWXEAMzwIt

I’m no expert, but those look like serious people to me.

Here’s their letter.

Here’s a crazy thing; I can’t for the life of me find that story on CBC!

You can read all about it in Singapore or Nigeria, but the narrative mangers at CBC have deemed it too controversial for their delicate Canadian readership.

Why the Ambassador Bridge is open but Ottawa is not

As I predicted, "inconveniences" that cost rich people money can't be ignored for long in our society. Lockdowns generally inconvenienced only the peons while making the rich richer, hence no complaints from the plutocrats.

Ergo, the Ambassador Bridge is open less than a week after being shut down.

After three weeks the Ottawa occupation, on the other hand, isn't inconveniencing anyone of importance or inflicting financial pain on the rich. Dragging it out helps Justin's agenda of pitting various sub-groups of inconsequential people against one another.

In that mission he has the full support of our legacy media. Although the protests were triggered by the federal government's incoherent, inconsistent, and manifestly non-scientific vaccine mandates (where's the science that proves unvaccinated long-distance truckers are more of a risk than unvaccinated teachers or nurses?), media immediately began a smear campaign to change the narrative.

Now the Freedom Convoy is about white supremacy and anti-semitism! Of course it is!

If the CBC and the Globe & Mail say so, it must be true!

Remember when a terrorist was a fanatic who detonated a suicide vest in a pizzeria?

Or maybe hijacked airplanes and flew them into buildings?

Or exploded busses and subways and attacked music venues with multiple suicide jihadists...?

That was the golden era of terror.

Like journalism, terrorism isn't what it used to be.

Today, all you have to do to get your official terrorist badge, is toot your horn!

That's right!

Toot your horn in the wrong place at the wrong time, and you're right up there with the worst jihadi-al queda-ISIS-towel-head 'o terror pizzeria shoe-bombers of all time!

At least in Canada.

Ottawa declares emergency after week-long terrorist attack of horn-honking

Yes, that's the language being bandied about - it's a terrorist attack! Our democracy is under siege!! Who is behind this? Putin? Trump? Joe Rogan?

The truckers’ protest against vaccine mandates has gone form “small fringe group with unacceptable ideas” to a nationwide terrorist uprising, and our legacy media and assorted spin doctors are just warming up.

Notice the not-so-subtle threat inflation in the descriptors; the small fringe of wackos has morphed into an existential threat to our very democracy in a mere nine days! As the convoys made their way to Toronto, the massive outpouring of public support put a lie to the “small fringe” theory. It’s OMG time, as in OMG it’s our own 9/11!

Bear in mind the absurdity of the mandates being protested. In Ontario, unvaccinated teachers are permitted to spend their workday in the company of children, who are not mandated either. In Quebec, unvaccinated health-care workers remain employed in hospitals and LTC homes. But an unvaccinated trucker who spends virtually their entire working life sitting alone in the cab of a truck needs to quarantine for two weeks when crossing the border? And this life-saving rule is implemented two years into the pandemic, when other countries are lifting restrictions?

I’d like to see the science on that!

Part of the reason for Canada’s incoherent mish-mash of rules is that each provincial or territorial leader has their own coterie of health and science advisers. If we ever get to the post-mortem on how governments handled the pandemic, hopefully we’ll figure out how to build a more robust national health care system that doesn’t have to re-invent the wheel thirteen times over every time there’s a health crisis.

Before we get there, though, we need to get over the current impasse. Trudeau’s handlers obviously see their confrontational approach as a vote-getter. All they really need to do is sit tight and let the media run wild with their smear campaign, and time is on their side, or so they think.

So brace yourself for an onslaught of nonsense like that floated last week in the pages of the Globe and Mail; US extremist white-nationalist truckers bringing guns to their Canadian brethren in Ottawa…

By the way, a news channel in India found some Sikhs protesting in support of those white supremacists in Ottawa.

It’s a beautiful thing!

Police fear American insurgents with guns to infiltrate Ottawa protest

That enticing nugget of speculation can be found in the pages of the Globe and Mail today (Gary Mason p 15), so you may wish to take it with a pound of salt or two.

The thought leaders at the Globe have been mightily indignant since before the convoy left Vancouver. After all, according to them, vaccine hesitancy has always been a symptom of racism and white supremacy. When Black Lives Matter declares vaccine mandates racist, the blinkered nabobs at the Globe stay silent.

PM Fluffy, meanwhile, is doubling down on his campaign of relentless vilification of the protesters. His handlers are under the impression this is a vote-winning strategy. When, two years into this pandemic, Trudeau can still stand there and talk about the only way out is getting more people vaccinated, he's definitely not got science on his side.

"Safe" and "effective" are relative terms, of course. We're among the leading nations in terms of vaccine uptake, and we've got more covid, more hospitalizations, and more deaths than ever. Does that really strike you as a sound basis for a mandatory vaccination policy?

The folks in those trucks don't thinks so.

Trudeau to call on NATO to evict trucker's Freedom Convoy

The Canadian Rebellion of '22 will make it into the history books.

We’ve had rebellions before in our history. They tend not to end well for the rebels.

So what will the history books be saying about this one? As you know, the victors write the history books, so that depends. I’m inclined to consider that’s a forgone conclusion; not the rebels, obviously!

Then again…

I’m hearing there’s an issue around finding towing contractors to tow protest trucks. You can understand why. The tow-truck drivers live on the same side of the tracks as the cross-border truckers who fired up this rebellion

Failing that, the authorities could bring in Canadian Armed Forces tow trucks.

Guess who’s driving them? Kids who saw the CAF as their best bet after graduating high school. What do you think their fathers did? What side of the tracks do they live on?

See where this is going?

PM Fluffy isn’t helping himself here. This is an uprising of working-class Canadians way past sick and tired of being ignored, belittled, and talked down to.

Their prime minister refuses to talk to them and dismisses them with one insult after another. He is taking the classic authoritarian approach to dissenters; smear them fast and hard, and if that don’t work, call in the troops, but never ever actually talk to them.

Fluffy’s hands are tied, of course; how can he possibly indulge something as morally repugnant as talking to uncouth smelly working people, many of whom have bad haircuts, especially when they’re just a bunch of Jew-hating homophobic misogynists anyway?

Worst case scenario?

If the CAF fails to come through, he’ll have to call in our NATO allies to sort this out.

One way or another, you know who’s gonna win this.

An open letter to my member of parliament from a peaceable supporter of the truckers' protest

To Alex Ruff, House of Commons, Ottawa

Dear Alex,

I am a fully vaccinated resident of Georgian Bluffs. Some of my neighbours are not. Nevertheless, in the proud tradition of rural Ontario, we respect one another in spite of our differences.

A number of people from this area attended the Ottawa protest. All of them seem to have had an experience totally at odds with what was portrayed in the media. They spoke of an atmosphere of joyful excitement,  whereas the media present nothing but tales of intimidation, misogyny, racism, and hate.

Although our Prime Minister chose not to see for himself, he has concluded that, because a handful of attendees misbehaved, he can dismiss the entire protest out of hand in the most contemptuous terms.

Here is a suggestion that I hope you can bring up in parliament; point out to the PM that there were many thousands of entirely peaceful and law-abiding protesters in attendance, and he has no excuse whatsoever not to engage in dialogue with them. If he is at all interested in bringing Canadians together instead of further stoking division, he should do so.

Overall, Canada has done relatively well in pandemic management and we have a high level of vaccine uptake. Case numbers are once again in decline. Peer nations like UK and Denmark have eliminated all pandemic mandates.

This is not the time for the PM to show us he's "the boss."

This should be a time for healing and moving forward as a united country.

Justin's power trip is taking us in the opposite direction.

Respectfully,

Dieter Neumann

Georgian Bluffs, ON

Freedom Convoy needs dude with turban at the front

That would defuse the slimy innuendo of white supremacy our legacy media are desperately trying to smear the protesters with.

Sikh leadership is what allowed the farmers in India to roll back odious agricultural “reforms.” The farmers took their own Freedom Convoy to Delhi… and stayed for a year! PM Modi climbed down. The farmers won!

There’s plenty of Sikhs in Canadian trucking, both as drivers and as entrepreneurs who own small to medium fleets. I don’t know enough about politics in the Sikh community to guess what side they’d take.

But imagine what this popular anti-government uprising could accomplish with the kind of leadership that faced down Modi. Imagine if those thousands of trucks don’t move on Monday morning.

Imagine if the Freedom Convoy spokesman breaking the news was a dude in a turban.

“We are prepared to stay as long as required to negotiate the end to vaccination mandates.”

Unlike the NDP guy and our former Defence minister, most Sikhs are serious people, and once PM Fluffy’s handlers realize they’re up against serious people, they’ll get serious themselves.

It’s time to end pandemic mandates.

As trucker's Freedom Convoy nears Ottawa, Trudeau announces he'll be "working from home"

Those thousands of pissed-off truckers and their supporters will be disappointed that no prime ministerial welcome awaits in Ottawa. Seems PM Fluffy had a timely brush with the virus, and must, as the science dictates, self-isolate for five days. By then the coast should be clear, and he’ll dare show his face again.

Of course, if the insurrectionist mob of smelly working people hasn’t disbursed by then, don’t be surprised if there’s another unfortunate brush with the virus, or perhaps a new science breakthrough that demands a lengthier isolation.

In the meantime, expect to see wall-to-wall demonization of the raging anti-vaxx science-deniers from our official government propaganda organ, the CBC. We will be incessantly reminded that only Trump-loving white supremacists question the safety and efficacy of the vaccines.

The idiocy of mandating trucker vaccinations at this stage, after having allowed unvaccinated drivers freely back and forth across the border as far more deadly covid mutations raged for the last two years, is obvious to anyone who has managed to hang on to even a tiny sliver of rational thought.
