Because Brussels is way too closely identified with the "old" Europe, whereas Poland represents the fresh young face of democracy in the Old World.
Just ask Donald Tusk. Tusk is President of the European Council, after all, and his musings have some schlepp. How a retrograde Polish right winger ever reached that office is a mystery to me; something akin to making Doug Ford Sec General of the UN. The reason the current anti-Iran "summit" is unfolding in Poland is because none of the core European nations of "Old Europe" want to encourage more Yankee-Doodle diddling in their affairs.
But Poland wants to host a US military base, and they want to call it Fort Trump.
So the anti-Iran summit happens. The highlights? We're seeing great strides in rapprochement between the only democracy in the Middle East and the almost-but-not-quite democracy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
And the mastermind behind this rapprochement is none other than Jared Kushner, the power behind the throne in Washington, if you believe the latest stories coming out of DC.
By golly... I think I see a Nobel Prize in young Jared's future!

Cognitive dissonance and our "ironclad" support for Israel
The Freeland-Trudeau team like to go out of their way to pose as Trump-defying humanists, stalwarts of the international anti-Trump resistance. That's a pose meant primarily for the domestic audience, where pretend resistance scores a lot of political points among great swathes of the populace.
In the real world, we're 100% in with the Israel-KSA-USA axis of virtue. How else to explain our dithering over our biggest arms sale ever? How else to explain Chrystia's grovelling performance in Jerusalem last week?
The IDF turkey shoot at the Gaza fence continues week in and week out, with nary a peep from our dynamic duo of "feminist foreign policy," save for that one ill-advised slip of the tongue on Trudeau's part back in May, when he accidentally misspoke about the need for an impartial inquiry into the IDF's multiple murders of unarmed Palestinians. That brief outburst of sanity went missing immediately.
Maybe Kushner made a phone call.
No, we're proud to offer our "unwavering and ironclad support" for the Trump-loving Likudniks who are systematically destroying Israel and turning it into a loathsome apartheid pariah.

Trump doing God's work in Middle East
Of course he is!
Long-time Trump-watchers are unanimous that Donny J has finally found his real calling - as God's point man on earth. What, you thought that was the Pope?
The idea of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel crosses the minds of presidential candidates with some frequency. They tend to think aloud on the matter whilst on the campaign trail. It's a handy sop to some of the bigger donors, and a big vote-getter in the right-wing "Christian Zionist" constituency.
Once they're in office they tend to stop thinking about it, aloud or otherwise. After all, why piss off some of the biggest customers of America's military-industrial ecosystem? Russian or Chinese weapon systems would suit the Saudis just as well in a pinch.
So what's different this time round? For one thing, the imbecile in the White House is desperate for some headlines that aren't about one or another of the investigations around him. The imbecile in Riyadh, now firmly in Jared Kushner's pocket, is in way over his head and is keen to throw in his lot with what he sees as the big dogs, even if it means turning his back on the Palestinians.
The third cheerleader for this march to Armageddon is the greatest leader since Moses, Mr Netanyahu. He's having his own troubles with investigations and surely welcomes this diversion.
Trump, MbS, Netanyahu... we're not talking about the three wise men here.
What could go wrong?

Jared Kushner is Trump's point man in the Middle East... what could go wrong?
Everything.
Jared Kushner is the proverbial teenager dressed up in an old man's suit.
Trump, a B-list Manhattan property developer, if that, reached into the A-list of Manhattan property developers to source his Middle East envoy.
The fact that young Kushner is his son-in-law just makes this story more interesting.
What are Jared's qualifications for being Middle East point man?
Well, he's a Jew.
So what. Chomsky is a Jew. Gilad Atzmon is a Jew. Norman Finkelstein is a Jew. None of them are likely to become presidential advisers any time soon.
But Kushner is the right kind of Jew. He's the kind of Jew who learned his Middle East history at the feet of that great scholar of Judaism, Benyamin Netanyahu.
As such, he's pretty much on the same page as Israel's current Deputy Foreign Minister, Tzipi Hotovely.
Her take on Middle East affairs is that God promised that land to the Israelites all those many years ago, and if you're not on board with that, you are a God-defying antisemite.
Never before in history have so many atheists turned to the word of God to justify their racist policies than in the current Bibi cabinet.
As hilarious as this may be, it's only going to get funnier.

Hey Shinzo, we gotta say hello to these people
They've paid me a fortune over the years...
And that's how the president of the USA and the Prime Minister of Japan happened to photo-bomb the wedding of a young couple who got married at Mar-a-Lago at the same time that Donny J was hosting the Japanese PM.
The personal is indeed political.
And the political gets way more personal. Look at how young Jared is faring out.
He married Donald's daughter.
That in itself would seem to be a pretty decent score.
Then his father-in-law becomes President of the USA?
SCORE! SCORE! SCORE!
Look at Jared now.
Mastermind of the US-Saudi 100 billion arms deal, from what I'm reading.
Young Jared will never want for a dollar or a job again. He's snatched the brass ring!
There'll be so many directorships of big weapons manufacturers on offer that young Jared may want to lie down for a nap before he makes a decision!
But of course his number one file is Israel.
Do you ever wonder why the imaginary Russian interference in American democracy gets massive headlines while the very real Israeli interference gets a free pass?
That would be a good question to put to Jared.
