Can the beautiful game survive Trumpian douchebaggery?

I'll be perfectly blunt. Personally, I don't get the allure of "the beautiful game." My late father and all three of my brothers can converse knowledgeably about who's who and what's what in the British Premier League and all the top Liga across Europa. They can spend an afternoon watching a 0-0 draw and act like they witnessed a great sporting event! As far as I'm concerned, normal fans in any other sport feel ripped off by a 0-0 tie. Nevertheless, FIFA is in charge of the biggest televised sporting event in the world. Bigger than the World Series. Bigger than the Indy 500. Bigger than the Super Bowl! That's why I'm shocked that FIFA boss Johnny Infantino's impeccably-coiffed head has been permanently wedged between Mafia Don's butt-cheeks ever since he presented him with the "FIFA Peace Prize." First one ever! I mean lots of people have won Nobel Peace Prizes... ho hum... But Donny J won the FIRST EVER FIFA PEACE PRIZE!!! The world has never seen anything like it! I don't get it. In the big picture, Infantino is a big deal and Trump is... well, not doing all that great. Then again, that name rings a bell... Infantino. Wasn't there a New Jersey Mafia boss by that name back when Donny was building casinos in the Garden State? Anyway, Spain won and the Argies didn't. The country that denied America its airspace for its criminal attack on Iran defeated the most obnoxious cheerleader for Israeli apartheid and its US-supported genocide. Let's try to enjoy that, at least for one day.

Two weeks after new NSS promises focus on Western hemisphere, Trump bombs Nigeria

Bombing Nigeria on Christmas day in order to protect Christians probably won't end well for the Christians. There have been tensions between Christian and Muslim tribes for centuries. In essence, Trump is jumping into a Nigerian civil war. But maybe he doesn't realize Nigeria isn't part of the Western Hemisphere? Meanwhile, the showdown with Maduro continues. It must cost a bundle to keep the greatest armada in history idling in the Caribbean for months on end. And to what purpose? A land invasion? Shock and awe and a quick decapitation strike? Installing the recent Nobel Peace Prize winner in the presidential palace? Bringing back Random Guaido from his adjunct professorship in Florida to assume his rightful place as unelected leader of the nation? So many great options, but nothing's happening. Why? I don't want to rain on Trump's parade of retarded policy initiatives, but here's a thought. Why not scrap all sanctions on Venezuela, and prove to the Venezuelan people that America can actually be a force for good. Strike some legit nation-to-nation accords on letting American multinationals participate in the oil industry. Stop interfering in their politics. Why piss away billions in futile attempts to coherce Venezuela when you could be making billions playing nice? What a bunch of hubris-blinded zealots.

The Israel we knew is gone forever

Like most every kid who came up in a Christian home in the middle decades of the last century, I was raised to have a profound respect for the Jewish people and their long overdue homeland. With the creation of the state of Israel, a land without people for a people without land, biblical prophecies were coming true all over the place! The Six Day War cemented our bond. The hand of God alone permitted the Chosen People to prevail when their massed enemies unleashed a sneak attack on them! In ‘73 we doubled down. Back in the day, Israel was a destination for many idealistic young people who wanted to demonstrate solidarity by spending some time on a kibbutz. Today the idealistic young people prefer to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinians. What changed? One thing that changed is that my generation outgrew the Sunday School propaganda we had marinated in throughout our childhoods. We learned that the land without people actually had people after all. We learned those people had been displaced. The realization slowly dawned on us they remained displaced decades after the fact. The resistance of the displaced people against their displacers began to get serious attention by the late ‘60s. The “terrorism” of the PLO led, in the fullness of time, to the negotiation of the fabled “two-state solution.” The Oslo Accords were to be the first step on the way to that solution. In 1994 PM Yitzak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat shared the Nobel Peace Prize for the Oslo Accords. The following year, Rabin was murdered by a right-wing Jewish religious nutter. The two-state solution died with Yitzak Rabin. The people who killed him now steer the ship of state. There will be no peace. There will be no two-state solution. As progressive Israelis abandon ship, as they have been doing for years and will do with increasing urgency going forward, the land we once idealized will become the preserve of Jewish supremacists determined to cleanse the land of the “Children of Darkness.” Yes, they talk like that. And the greatest democracy in history, the ultimate redoubt of human rights, the City on a Hill shining freedom’s light into the darkness of creeping authoritarianism, the United States of America, with the most powerful military in the history of history, backs up Israel’s genocide in Gaza 100%.

Middle East problem-solving 101

What with the Trumpian relocation of the US embassy and all the hoo-ha about those brave IDF snipers gunning down unarmed Palestinians, I figure its time to root around in the archives and find us a winning plan.

We got it!

Ya, it's been three years since the think tank here at Falling Downs came up with this insight, but one thing all great plans have in common is they stand up to the test of time.

Annexing Libya makes even more sense for Egypt today than when we originally released that policy paper. Nevermind Egypt; it makes even more sense to the rest of the world!

Think about it.

Those 2.5 million Gazans get a place to call home.

Another four million West Bankers will surely follow in short order!

Voila, the Holy Land will be totally vacated by the miscreants, and will be totally a blank slate for the Chosen People!

Isn't that what all this Middle East conflict is about? Clearing out the unchosen and moving in the Chosen?

Of course it is...

By God, I think we got us a home run here...

Islamic terrorist nuclear threat

Even casual consumers of mass media news product would have noticed some iteration of the above headline in their news over the past few days. That's because Obama was hosting a "Nuclear Summit" this week at which a gaggle of world leaders spent an undue amount of time wringing their hands over the prospects of Islamic State baddies getting their hands on crude "dirty bombs" or the material to build them. Among the handwringers at the table were the leaders of nuclear powers India, China, France, Britain, and of course the host nation.

Speaking of which, the host nation has embarked, under the leadership of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, on a trillion dollar update of America's nuclear arsenal. This should be more than a little disturbing. Given the sideways tilt that the ship of American democracy has taken recently, it is not inconceivable that America's nuclear arsenal could fall into the hands of a rogue nuclear arsehole in the foreseeable future.

But I digress. According to the headlines, what we should really be worried about is the Towelheads 'o Terror getting their mitts on some spent fuel rods from one of planet earth's many nuclear power stations and unleashing a dirty bomb in London or Paris or Washington.

Is such a thing a possibility? Of course it is, at some vague level of "possibility." What isn't? The possibilities are literally endless...

Should such a possibility be accorded front page news status?

No.

This is just the usual fear mongers peddling their latest dose of booga-booga, the better to stampede the public into going along with more intrusive surveillance of everybody all the time and more military spending.

How Ukraine can defeat Putin's plan to destroy their country

Having discovered that Putin secretly controls not only the separatists in the east, but also the ultranationalist militias and the Poroshenko government itself, solving the "Ukrainian crisis" becomes stunningly simple; all the Ukrainians have to do is collectively defy Putin by stopping their wars against each other!

Problem solved! Gonna clear some space on the mantle for my Nobel Peace Prize...

Iran leads way on Sunni-Shite rapprochement

I must have read a dozen times in as many different mainstream places this week that the perpetual turmoil in the Middle East has nothing to do with the last 100 years of Western meddling in the region, but everything to do with the last thousand plus years of Sunni-Shite animosities.

That is, if nothing else, a convenient way of getting us off the hook. Insofar as that is true, one would think that the same know-nothing Western experts who put forward that argument would rejoice at the initiatives taken by Shia Iran to reach out to their Sunni cousins.

In fact, both Hamas boss Ismail Haniya and Uber-Ayatolla Ali Khamenei should be deemed Nobel Peace Prize worthy for their efforts to bring together the long-warring branches of the family of the Prophet, bless His name.

You will notice, however, that those same Western experts are not at all keen on any hint of Sunni-Shite reconciliation. Why do you suppose that is? Could it be that at every turn over the past twenty years, the Nations of Virtue, ie the West, have done whatever they could to fan the flames of the Sunni-Shia rivalry?

Could that be because virtually every Sunni-led country is in America's pocket?

Could that Sunni-Shia rivalry, now that it has reached mutually genocidal proportions, be itself the product of our meddling?

Could that explain our fixation on Iran's imaginary nukes, while the all-too-real Judeo-Christian nukes in Israel and the Sunni nukes in Pakistan give us no cause for concern whatsoever?

Could a successful rapprochement be the undoing of our divide-and-conquer strategy, a strategy that has served the West so well and condemned the people of the Middle East to perpetual horror?

No wonder our mainstream presstitutes never tire of demonizing Iran and Hamas!
