Why Kendrick Lamar believes Drake is a fake

Leave it to CBC to get to the bottom of the Drake - Lamar feud. Matt Galloway had some experts weighing in on the matter this morning. Apparently the famous rapper “straight outta Compton” takes issue with the authenticity of the famous rapper “straight outta Jewish day school” in Toronto. After all, they both got rich in a genre that celebrates, let’s not mince words, some of the more violent and dystopian aspects of Black urban culture. That’s why so many up-and-coming rappers are dead and gone long before they’re rich and famous. Lamar has a point. There’s no comparison whatsoever between coming up poor and Black in Compton, and coming up middle class and Black-white-Jewish in Toronto. None. Might as well be two different planets. That’s why I think it’s time for Drake to take a hiatus from his music career. Once you’re the hate magnet of millions of authentic ghetto thugs who idolize Kendrick Lamar, and they obviously know where you live, take a break. Smell the flowers while you can!

Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud takes deadly turn

When the news came out that uber-famous rapper Drake was building a home base in Canada's most exclusive postal code, the neighbors whispered amongst one another, "there's gonna be trouble." They were right! Check it out from the CBC; Security guard shot outside Drake's mega-mansion. Bridle Path, Drake’s ‘hood, is the toniest, most posh neighborhood in all Toronto, where the median price of a crib, as the rapper’s like to call their place, runs about 8 millions. While I don’t follow matters in the world of rap music much, the CBC itself has informed me Drake has been in an on-going feud with Kendrick Lamar, another big name rapper, but in this case, straight outta Compton. My hunch is that “straight outta Compton” beats “straight outta Jewish day school” in the world of rap cred. Yo Drake, if I was you I’d be watching my back!

Must have been a slow news week

Nothing much in the weekend papers. Former G-G Adrienne Clarkson got a bit of self-serving twaddle into the Globe and Mail explaining why we should be grateful that she's still sucking hard on the government teat almost fourteen years after giving up that sinecure.

Elsewhere in the Globe we learn that the US will "temporarily allow" eight countries to continue buying Iranian oil after the new US sanctions kick in tomorrow. The wanton twattery of a bunch of American exceptionalists presuming to dictate to the world who can and who cannot buy Iranian oil passes without comment, naturally.

Things are pretty thin in the Sunday Star as well. Drake claims he was racially profiled at a Vancouver casino. Really? My hunch is that casinos are more interested in credit score profiling than racial profiling, and you'd think he'd be golden in that department, but whatever.

The NYT International Weekly (included at no extra cost with your Sunday Star, because actually paying Canadian writers for original copy is prohibitively expensive) makes the case for Colorado Governor Hickenlooper, a made energy industry bumboy from the get-go, taking a run at the White House in 2020. Seriously? I write more insightful shit than that.

Both Kristof and Stephens have op-eds that don't mention Donny J, to my considerable surprise. Maybe Sarah Kendzior is onto something...

Picked up a Toronto Sun just to see what the semi-literate folks are reading these days. With Remembrance Day around the corner, we've naturally got the predictable jingoistic claptrap about how the bold Canucks punched above their weight in the WW I.

What a concept, that WW I. The royal families of Europe had some differences. They're all related anyway, so you'd think they could sort things out with a family picnic or something, but no. Millions of working class schmucks on all sides had to make the ultimate sacrifice. We remember their sacrifice every November 11. Their naivete and gullibility, along with the craven cynicism of those who sacrificed them, we prefer to forget.

Further in we get a few accolades for Doug Ford's war on the poor with his Making Ontario Open for Business Act. But even that isn't enough for guest columnist Peter Gossman, who is pleased to inform us that he's planning to open his next factory in the US instead of Canada.

I'm sure Trump will appreciate your help in making America great again with the few dozen minimum wage jobs you might create there, Pete!

Gossman also informs us, via a quote from another PostMedia title, that "...oil, gas, and coal remain the fuels of the future."

Huh?... oh ya, we're reading the Toronto Sun...

Pres of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Rocco Rossi gets a guest column too, although it's largely incoherent. Since it's in the Sun maybe the readers won't notice. His members are experiencing both a labour shortage and a skills shortage, so the Ford government's war on the working poor is going to create a lot of jobs...

Or something.

The Sun still has their Sunshine Girl, but she's near the back of the paper now. Used to be on page two or three if I remember correctly. That was a great gig for the photographer back in the day, at least till he got charged with attempted rape or something. I think he went to jail for a spell. Today's Sunshine Girl, Lavender, "is a Sagittarius who is all about Sunday, smiles, and sunshine."

Good to know!

Welcome to Brampton, centre of the universe

The multi-culti universe!

Me and the Farm Manager went to see a Juno-nominated singer last night, Alysha Brilla. She may proudly proclaim her KW home base, but she still admits her roots are in Brampton.

Brampton used to be a place you drove through on the way to Toronto.

It's where Russell Peters comes from, for God's sakes; the funniest Canadian comic ever!

Now it's a "place."

I think when Drake talks about the "west side of Toronto" he's getting pretty close to Brampton.

Why Drake needs a smarter smart-phone

Let's face it; if smart phones were all that smart, Drake's unit would have intervened before he had a chance to push "send" on that rancid Rolling Stone/ Phillip Seymour Hoffman rant he tweeted yesterday.

As it is, his PR folks swung into damage control mode today to undo the damage. He was a bit emotional, don't you know... it was a tough day at the office, and yadayadayada.

But some of the damage can never be undone. Drake has been forever revealed as petty, vindictive, and a narcissist through and through. No amount of PR spin is going to change that.

Then again, maybe that's what we expect from our "stars" in the first place.

Drake is a flake on the cover of the Rolling Stone

Well, I guess he's not on the cover, which is what he's on about.

The optics of Drake's tantrum aren't going to do much of anything for his career. What would you call it... uncouth? Petty? Ridiculous?

I don't get that career to begin with, but then again I'm not really dialled in to pop culture. Like, how does that Beiber kid garner the kind of front page publicity that he gets? If I'm not mistaken he's part of the same pop stable that Drake hails from.

But to whine about being bumped from the cover of Rolling Stone because of the untimely passing of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, well, that is beyond bad manners.
