Miracles of American democracy

As every patriotic American knows with every fibre of their being, this great nation has been extravagantly blessed by God since He guided the Mayflower to these shores all those many years ago. After the revolutionary war, which finally gave God an actual foothold on earth, our profound faith in the Almighty gave us "Manifest Destiny," a God-given mission statement that guides America to this very day.

There are those who claim America lost her way in the post WW2 era. There are those who claim civil rights and gay rights and losing Viet Nam made God turn away from America. There are those who claim that the likes of Mike Pompeo, with his lyin' cheatin' stealin' ways, besmirched God's good name.

Nonsense! The miracles of 2020 put the lie to those who doubt American Exceptionalism.

First miracle; The Democratic Party Primaries.  As you may recall, the candidate they call "Sleepy Joe" stumbled badly out of the blocks. He was handily eclipsed in the first few rounds by Bernie and Mayor Pete. Then, the first 2020 miracle, in North Carolina. Sleepy Joe comes out of nowhere. Only the hand of the divine could engineer such a comeback. The pretenders quickly made way for God's anointed. Sleepy Joe miraculously became the official candidate!

Second miracle; the Trump campaign.  Donald Trump was never expected to win in 2016, and he certainly wasn't supposed to win in 2020. Further, the political establishment that had displeased Our Lord for the last seventy years was determined to see to it that such an eventuality would never come to pass.

To that end, they hammered Trump with the most sustained campaign of negative media coverage in the history of electoral politics. This campaign was utterly relentless for four full years. Each concocted slur upped the ante on the last one. By the time the 2020 race got serious, Trump was the most lyin', most misogynist, most xenophobic, most homophobic, and, last but not least, most RACIST candidate in the history of the nation.

After Nov. 3, we learned that the four year campaign of Trump-bashing resulted in an increase in his voter support from Blacks, Hispanics, and gays. In fact, some twelve million more Americans voted for Trump in 2020 than in 2016. All told, Trump polled four million more presidential votes in 2020 than Obama did in his record-smashing 2008 election. Truly a miracle!

Third miracle; the resurrection of Sleepy Joe. So, Trump got more votes in 2020 than any presidential campaign in over 200 years of American democracy... except for one. Yup, Trump may have smashed Obama's record vote total... but Sleepy Joe trumped that miracle by another SEVEN MILLION!!!

Who could even imagine such a miracle! Our Lord chose to speak through the millions of masked, but not silenced, Dem voters who voted early, or voted by mail, or both.

The silent majority is silent no more!

And, far more importantly, the result of the election proves that God still cradles America in His loving embrace.

Now that God has revealed His will, let us come together to forward the Lord's agenda in China, Iran, Russia, Korea, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and any other nations that have lost the path of true democracy.

Miracles can happen among those hapless peoples too.

Just put your faith in the Lord.

Only war can save us now

Just like the WWII saved capitalism seventy-five years ago.

This is not then, of course. Capitalism has become bolder. Every major institution has been suborned to the dictates of the oligarchs. Corporations are people too; they're the people who have risen to the top of the heap.

Anybody who is not a corporation knows that corporations are not people, regardless of what the Supreme Court says. They are owned and operated by actual real human beings. These are the people to whom we ascribe the "one-percenter" label.

These are the folks who have wrangled the so-called pandemic into an excuse to loot the public purse as never before in history.

The public purse has never been this deep underwater in history. Ever.

The bulk of hundreds of billions, nay, trillions, flowing out of the various "covid assistance" scams are going to the one percenters. The oligarchs are adding billions to their net worth while millions are threatened with eviction from their homes.

If you were to let this thread run its course, it could only end one way; revolution.

Unless, of course, the nation had to go to war. War changes everything.

Pompeo is hard at work on that file as I type these words.

Canada stands with Trump and Pompeo

The Two Michaels rule the front page of The Globe and Mail again today, but there is a hopeful sign the paper is easing its censorship of an obvious counter-narrative to the "rule of law" idiocy PM Trudeau's office has steadfastly put forward for the last year and a half.

"Ottawa can free Meng now, Arbour says," reads the top headline. Louise Arbour is one of the most widely respected international jurists Canada has ever produced.

The Globe and Mail could have splashed that headline across any of its 450+ front pages it has published since Kovrig and Spavor were apprehended, because it's not "news" that the government has had the authority to legally and with all due respect for "rule of law" send Meng  home since the day we foolishly took her into custody.

Our first and wisest choice would have been to decline the US extradition request in the first place. What is it to Canada if a Chinese company ignores arbitrary and unilateral sanctions America has imposed on Iran?

Instead, we've been presented a steady stream of drivel about how our refusing to toady to the Americans would violate "the rule of law," whereas the sanctions themselves, having utterly no basis in any kind of law, are treated as some sort of self-evident act of moral virtue.

Uncle Sam good, Ayatollahs bad, and that's all any good Canadian needs to know.

By sucking up to the likes of Trump and Pompeo, Canada is further squandering whatever credibility she may once have enjoyed as an independent actor on the world stage.

Chinese bullying; return of the Yellow Peril

There's certainly a lot of hand-wringing over Chinese bullying these days. It was on the front page of the Globe today. It was in Campbell Clark's column. It was mentioned three times in letters to the editor. Obviously somebody at the national newspaper of record is working very hard to get the reading public onboard with all this fear-mongering.

The gist of the bullying charges is simple enough. After we received that arrest request for Meng Wanzhou from Washington, we studied our values and our rules and our laws for about five minutes before concluding that our only conceivable way forward was to immediately capitulate to Washington's demand.

So what do those commies do? They pop a couple of innocent Canadians in the slammer on trumped up espionage charges and declare war on our canola exports!

Those impertinent yellow bastards! That's a textbook case of an evil dictatorship BULLYING a vibrant democracy that's just peaceably going about its business in a lawful and orderly way. At least that's the way Chrystia and Justin like to spin the story.

But let's go back to Ms. Wanzhou for a moment. What is the alleged crime for which we arrested her? Her company allegedly violated some sanctions that the US unilaterally imposed on Iran. Sanctions are something that the world's only super-power uses as a matter of course against nations who get too uppity, like Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran, among others.

Who is the bully in this scenario?

And what is the way forward for Canada? According to Justin and Chrystia, our way forward is to plead with the likes of Pompeo and Trump to support us in "our" squabble with the government of China.

We wouldn't have a squabble with China if we hadn't jumped when the bully snapped his fingers last December. Now we're sucking up to the bully some more in hopes that our past kowtowing got us enough brownie points to get the canola moving and those Canadian innocents home.

Truly pathetic.

Trump as tool of America's "deep state"

How are things going for the guy who was going to drain the swamp?

My hunch is that Trump's enthusiasm for draining the swamp waned mightily once he realized he had become the boss 'gator in that swamp.

As things stand, he's surrounded by deep-swamp creatures like Bolton and Pompeo. That tells me that whatever "drainage" he may have once envisioned has come to naught.

Instead, he's going with the neolib flow.

Not that he has much choice.

It's interesting to see how our mainstream press, the same folks who literally created Trump as a media celebrity, turned on him once he became prez. It's not Trump who changed; it's the way he's treated by the same media that fawned all over him from the early '80s till 2016.

Also interesting is how that same media is currently renovating the reputations of some of those names in the news that they used to uniformly deplore.

Pre-Trump, national security institutions like the FBI and CIA were widely considered not to be trusted. This scarcely requires elaboration. Yet since Trump found himself in the Oval Office, those institutions have been recast as honourable truth-tellers.

What's also being recast is the toxic legacy of the Bush family. CNN has an ongoing Bush rehabilitation series that works overtime to show the war criminals in a favourable light. Here's today's effort.

From where I'm watching, it looks like the apostles of American Exceptionalism are singing out of the same hymnal, whether their name is Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Obama, or Trump.

The names may change, but the song remains the same.

Freeland dancing to Trump's tune

There are at this moment two stories on view at the CBC News home page that are intimately related but don't appear to be.

Canada is taking a leading role in proclaiming the illegitimacy of the Maduro government, while simultaneously mounting an "anti-tariff charm offensive."

We're all-in with the US led not-so-charming regime-change offensive against Venezuela. Why, Canadians would never countenance normal relations with any kind of dictatorship, would we? Unless of course they were a significant purchaser of our military hardware or something...

Here's the picture that tells the story.

That's our Foreign Minister making nice with former CIA boss and current Sec of State Mike Pompeo, a man with way more blood on his hands than the hapless Maduro.

Chrystia: Make sure Donald understands we're doing everything we can to isolate the evil dictator Maduro.

Mike: You can count on it, Chrystia! And if you can assure me that Canada is 100% on board with the coalition of the willing when we go in to restore democracy, maybe Donald will see his way clear to undo those pesky steel and aluminum tariffs.

Our hypocrisy knows no bounds.
