Whatever else David Frum accomplishes in his charmed life, he will be forever remembered for coining the phrase "axis of evil."
The son of a Toronto dentist who gave up pulling teeth for a far more lucrative career developing strip malls, Frum has become a leading Republican NeverTrumper. Can't say I blame him. After all, there's a new Axis of Evil loose in the world today, and Donald Trump is its quarterback. His go-to receivers are MBS and Bibi.
This is a far more toxic axis of evil than the Iran-Iraq-North Korea combine Frum was talking about. Two out of three have nuclear weapons and the other one has more money than God, a fact both Trump and Netanyahu fully appreciate.
It's hard to believe that any serious person imagines any good could possibly come from such an alliance, yet I don't see a lot of calling-out in our mainstream media. No, MBS is cast as a "reformer,"and when IDF snipers pick off unarmed Palestinians at the Gaza containment fence, we are solemnly reminded that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. As such, we must never impair her ability to "defend" herself by shooting dead unarmed protesters.
Any criticism of Israel is of course antisemitism, and no right-thinking journo who values their career is gonna go there.
And for all the splashy protests the NeverTrump resistance has pulled off, there's been not the slightest sign of a course correction from the White House, nor has the anti-Trump crowd offered any genuine critique of the over-arching arc of US foreign policy, which by far pre-dates Trump.
Instead, we see all manner of hand-wringing over the fact that America, under Trump, can no longer be relied on to lead and protect Europe!
Well, it's about time!
Europeans are a remarkably stupid people. Except for a few voices on the fringes of polite society, they haven't figured out that their "refugee crisis" is the direct result of US foreign policy. Instead, they natter about Trump being twelve minutes late for his date with the Queen.
Seriously?
Get the f@ck outta here!
A few years ago I set up a petition on one of those petition websites to get Canada out of NATO. Unfortunately, I was somewhat into my cups at the time, and I could never recall the password I used, so I was unable to check on its progress.
But I think we're at another crossroads where the time may be ripe for a lot of NATO members to ask themselves who they're following and where they're headed.
By the way, all the big US military contractors (Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon, etc) enjoyed a nice spike in their share prices last week after Mafia Don suggested NATO members aim for spending 4% of GDP on defence instead of 2%. If you want to know who Trump is really representing, look no further.

Axis of Evil redux
You remember when W introduced us to the Axis of Evil. Ya, that was the brainchild of a certain Canadian speech-writer whose speech-writing contract went for a shit soon after.
At the time, the "Axis of Evil" was comprised of Iran and Iraq and North Korea.
But we've got a far more evil axis in play today...
Yup; the Ruskies have joined up.
And not only that, but our erstwhile democratic ally the wily Erdogan seems to be swiftly slipping into the club too.
And who can blame him... I mean the coup that was not a coup and definitely had nothing to do with Gulen, well, shit happens.
Just because shit happens doesn't automatically mean that Uncle Sam is pulling the strings behind the scenes, does it?
Of course not!
The fact that Fethullah Gulen has been cooling his heels a couple hours drive north of The Farm for the past twenty years doesn't mean a damned thing!

Bandar Bush sacked! Retires to Texas ranch
Word from my favorite Israeli website is that Prince Bandar bin Sultan has been kicked out of his headship at Saudi Arabia's Ministry of International Mayhem.
Quoting confidential sources, Debkafiles reports that Prince Bandar's completely independent management of the long-stalled Syrian revolution has become an impediment to those in Washington who just want to move things along already.
More specifically, Bandar's irrational obsession with the imaginary Iranian nuclear weapons program is a growing concern in Washington as the Obama team tries to rebrand the Ayatollas from "Axis of Evil" to "Axis of decent chaps who just have some wrong-headed ideas and ridiculous headgear."
While the Debka report cites numerous clandestine Bandar visits to Tel Aviv, it is also a well-known fact that Bandar has made clandestine visits to Tehran. This should not be a surprise. That's what your top spy-guys do; clandestine! Once you have been elevated to the position of top spook in any modern society, everything you do going forward is by definition clandestine!
Anonymous sources have assured the think tank here at Falling Downs that Bandar has taken leave of The Kingdom, probably for good, and settled in Texas. He was last seen helping George W stack firewood at Prairie Chapel Ranch.
This is good news for Assad, Rouhani, and of course Obama, whose Middle East policy has been bogged down in a place worse than Nowhere pretty much since the time he first took office.
With Bandar in Texas, it should be smooth sailing from here on.

France's Minister of Recolonization claims world needs more dictators like Chavez
I think I understand what Victorin Lurel is trying to say with his remarks.
It is not considered polite to speak approvingly of the late Chavez in the Nations of Virtue. Not when the Big Dog on Team NATO has long painted Chavez with the same brush once used to such comic effect on the "axis of evil."
So Lurel throws that "dictatorship" label into his remarks to show he's a team player before going on to make admiring remarks about el comandante.
Don't think it's going to fool anybody. Don't think it's going to speed up the arrival of NATO assistance for Hollande's reckless and rudderless adventure in Mali.
Hollande's Socialist Party has far more in common with Chavez than it does with the neocons in Washington. In both cases the economy is seen as being subservient to the needs of the society.
In Britain and North America the folks in power truly believe that society must conform to the demands of the economy.
So Lurel has it absolutely right. We all know that Chavez was no dictator by any stretch of the imagination, but we understand the political expediencies that required Lurel to throw that word in there.
