It don't take but a few minutes to understand each other

Eric Clapton and Chuck Berry had it right way back when.

That's some cool shit.

It probably couldn't happen today.

First of all, we definitely need to cancel that racist shitbag Keith Richards. Have you ever listened close to Brown Sugar?

Seriously?

And obviously, same goes for the rest of that gang of white supremacists commonly known as the Rolling Stones.

Sure, letting a Black dude take Wyman's place looks good.

But does Darryl Jones get his legit share of the gate like Bill woulda got?

Just asking.

Anyway, that's mostly bullshit. Point is, music is music.

It brings people together.

The greatest American poet

It's not Emerson and it's not Whitman...

The greatest American poet is Chuck Berry.

As is often the case with great poets, they have their foibles...

Drugs, booze, the entire spectrum of sexual perversion, and so forth.

But they're poets, for God's sake... let's cut them some slack!

Chuck Berry is without a doubt the greatest American poet of all time.

Southern Trust and Greyhound Bus and kiss my ass, it never gets better than that.

Chuck Berry goes motivatin' over that last hill

Sad to hear of Chuck Berry's passing.

Another sure sign that we're all getting older.

Mr. Berry was about vintage Americana.

Vintage Americana was about racism and misogyny. Mr. Berry cut his teeth in an era when a black man was not permitted to use the front door in many of the establishments he performed in. That's because black men were commonly known as "niggers" at the time.

Chuck Berry was one of the seminal acts who helped bring that bullshit down.

As for the misogyny thing, I'd guess I'm not the first to notice that a frequent theme in Berry's songwriting was women who were trying desperately to avoid him.

Maybelline wasn't in that Cadillac for nothing.

The perv-cam episode at his restaurant didn't help.

But he rose above, much like a certain famous film director rose above those pesky child-molestation accusations.

Stardom is a good card to have in your deck.

RIP Chuck Berry.
