Netanyahu reminds America that Christians and Jews are one big happy family!

And of course Muslims aren't a part of it, which must account for why they want to do us harm.

Netanyahu showed up on Face the Nation this morning, ostensibly to offer his insights into the latest Islamic State be-heading outrage. It took him all of 30 seconds to change the subject to Iran's nuclear weapons.

Unlike Israel's nuclear weapons, Iran's don't actually exist, but that's not something Bob Schieffer would bring up. That might cause an uncomfortable moment, and Bob saves those for Ron Paul. Instead, the greatest leader since Moses was basically given free rein to rant about the Islamic threat in general and the Iranian threat in particular.

He was also over-the-top in emphasising that Israel has no better friend than America, and America has no better friend than Israel, which is going to cause some pouting in Ottawa. That was just Netanyahu talking nice for the cameras... Mitt Romney came on next to set the record straight; Obama has practically sold the Promised Land down the river, and only a Republican administration can restore the trust that once allowed the triumphalist crazies of Likud to take American support totally for granted.

As for that "one big happy family" bit, I suppose he's right. When you get right down to it, Christianity is just a Jewish cult that went viral.

Facing the Nation with your head up your ass

I tuned in Face the Nation this morning to see who Bob Schieffer had on deck to explain the latest manoeuvres in America's never-ending war on terror/al Qaeda/ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State etc. After all, Obama has promised to unleash the forces of good to dispatch the evil-doers out of our Middle Eastern oilfields once and for all .

Sure enough, Mr. Schieffer has a good solid line-up of heavy hitters waiting in the wings to wax wise on the threat to freedom posed by these brutal radicals that America has been funding, arming, and training for years; Feinstein, Mike Rodgers, Lieberman, Robert Kagan, and former CIA Deputy Director Mike Morell.

As a long-time fan of America's Sunday morning propaganda shows, I pretty much know what to expect. Disagreement among the expert guests will be about whether or not Obama is doing enough, soon enough, and how long it might take, and whether the deed can be done without American "boots on the ground."

Every one of them will take it for granted that it is America's right, nay, America's DUTY, to crush these barbaric savages who (insert heinous outrage here).

None of them will question that American exceptionalism confers on the US the right to destroy entire nations and peoples in the pursuit of those quintessentially and uniquely American values, freedom and democracy.

All of them will be totally oblivious of the fact that Obama's latest escalation in this endless war on Muslims, this war that America has been losing on every front it has opened up, is just the latest milestone in America's long lazy slide into the abyss.

So it should be an important show...

But that's all later... first we have to talk about the NFL and domestic violence!

Netanyahu urges caution over Iran nuke deal

When I noticed the Israeli PM was going to be on Face the Nation I immediately thought, great!.. we're going to get an update on how those peace talks are going with the Palestinians, straight from the horse's mouth!

Alas, it was not to be. Guest host Nora O'Donnell steered clear of the pesky Palestinian question and instead quizzed the PM on his thoughts about the Iranian nuclear negotiations.

As journalism goes, this was an exercise in redundancy. Is it possible than anyone on the planet does not already know Netanyahu's thinking on the question of Iran's nuclear programme? After all, Netanyahu is practically the grandfather of the Iranian nuke scare, having first raised the alarm that Iranian scientists were months away from a nuclear weapon more than twenty years ago.

Nevertheless, Netanyahu's advice to the Western negotiators in Switzerland is well worth heeding. Lets not rush into anything. Just as Israel has avoided rushing back to those pre '67 borders for over 45 years, so the NATO negotiating team should take their time easing sanctions on Iran.

While it is always drollery of the highest order to hear Netanyahu invoke the sanctity of UN resolutions, I have to say I'm with him on this one. Iran would not be the first country in history to claim its nuclear energy program is for peaceful purposes only, until one day, SURPRISE!

Netanyahu knows whereof he speaks.
