Canada demonstrates yet again it is a serious player on the world stage

Brodie Fenlon's CBC and our Ukrainian ultra-nationalist Deputy PM put their heads together and came up with this stroke of imbecility; Canada's UN mission goes viral with tweet mocking Russia's letter to UN.

My my! Aren't we so terribly clever!

Somebody at Global Affairs marked up an official Russian communique with high-school English teacher style snarky comments, and then tweeted it out to the world!

And it's gone viral!

Apparently, Global Affairs has received props from four minor European countries and "the rest of the world" in this daring display of idiocy.

It will be a shock for most Canadians when they eventually realize the rest of the world has long resented being yoked into the Empire, thanks to our CBCs endless promotion of same.

The article actually cites this juvenile dreck as "contributing to Canada's diplomatic efforts."

If that statement is anywhere in the vicinity of the truth, we are well and truly doomed.

Multiple hit squads gunning for Zelensky

Zelensky became president of Ukraine for the same reason Trump became president of USA; brand recognition thanks to their TV careers. Both of them found out in short order that being "president" didn't actually mean you wielded power.

Zelensky, and Ukraine in general, has been used as bear bait by its masters in the West. Now that the bear has charged, Zelensky is expendable. So is Ukraine, for that matter.

No matter how things end up on the ground, years of prodding the Ukrainian puppets to goad Putin has finally paid off. NATO was desperate to maintain some semblance of relevance in the post-Cold War era. The allies weren't really buying in anymore. Hardly anyone was pulling their 2% of GDP weight. Without NATO the American Empire is basically the US, plus Canada and the Marshall Islands.

The Germans in particular were getting way too big for their lederhosen. Being the industrial powerhouse of the EU, they thought they were the Big Dog. They bought Putin's authoritarian gas by the pipeline. They even built him a new pipeline!

Obviously, to keep the Germans in the tent, they'd need to be taught a lesson.

Desperate measures were in order.

Enter Putin.

More specifically, Putin's military entered Ukraine on Thursday. By Sunday, Chancellor Olaf had sholtzed his trousers, and announced an immediate doubling of the defence budget. Not only that, but he also cancelled the new pipeline he had built for Putin's gas!

Those Germans have long memories! When the bear is at the door, cling tight to Uncle Sam.

NATO is Saved!

The American Empire is saved!

Alas, there will be blowback. Not only on Sholtz. There will be festering resentment towards the comedian who allowed himself to be so manipulated by his American masters.

When Zelensky goes to his reward, a German hit squad is a distinct possibility. But they are certainly not the only suspects.

On Feb. 4 the Globe & Mail reported that both PM Fluffy and his brain, Chrystia Freeland, had made phone calls to Zelensky, suggesting it wouldn't be in his interests if he were to follow through on his threat to arrest former president Poroshenko when he returned to Ukraine in mid January.

Those calls were egregious interference in Ukraine's internal affairs, but Canada has the largest Ukrainian diaspora in the world, and they tack hard right. Their lobby group in Ottawa arguably has more schlep than the Jewish lobby. Not only that, but the Deputy PM is part of that lobby.

Why would they want to save Poroshenko's ass?

Zelensky was a TV star who won an election. Poroshenko is a serious guy, a player, a man who knows the deep state in numerous countries. A man on a first-name basis with all the other corrupt oligarchs in Ukraine and beyond.

In short, a man who can get things done. But before he can do that, Zelensky needs to be done, it you catch my drift.

Zelensky is a marked man.

Hopefully this brief essay will help point the investigators in the right direction.

Justin Trudeau's "feminist foreign policy" comes down with cramps

Back in the bad old "Big Steve" era, thinking Canadians would cringe when Bullshittin' Baird used to go on about how Canada punches above its weight, blah blah blah.

Now we tweet above our weight instead. Usually, nobody gives a shit, but last week our good pals in the Saudi dictatorship took umbrage.

Poof!

Fifteen thousand Saudi students paying extravagant "foreign student" tuition, gone from our universities.

Canada's biggest industrial export contract in history at risk.

Prospects of further lucrative contracts from the KSA?

Nil.

The response from Canada so far has been to double down on a really dubious idea; that you can cosy up to repressive regimes to take their money, and then turn around and criticize them for being repressive.

Which is par for the course for the team of Dumb and Dumber running the show in Ottawa. To hear them tell the tale, nothing is ever going to prevent us from tweeting for human rights.

We're very selective of who we champion in those tweets, of course. If you're a victim of Bad Vlad's machinations in Ukraine, hey, we've got your back! We'll at least tweet our support, if nothing else.

If you're a Romani victim of Ukrainian racists, not so much.

If you're a Palestinian in Gaza, forget about it.

But that's Canada, eh?

We can't figure out the mysteries of providing clean water to Indian reservations.

We can't run an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women.

Hell, we can't even figure out how to pay our civil servants on time!

But, we are absolutely top-shelf, top-drawer, top 'o the heap when it comes to lecturing others on how to manage their affairs.

Can a newspaper be judged by what's not in it?

Took the hounds for a turn down the Bruce Trail the other side of Bass Lake this morning. Turns out the new pup is quite the water-girl. She'll fetch sticks out of the lake that the old girls turn their noses up at. They like to see a decent splash before they commit. The new girl will chase anything.

Lots of good stuff in my Globe and Mail this weekend. I see where the Trudeau gang are screwing over our PTSD-addled CAF vets by cutting back their medicinal marijuana allotment by two thirds. I thought maybe they'd make good on their promise to treat our vets with a little more respect after the lost decade of the Harper years, but it's not looking good.

Freeland's trip to Bangladesh gets lots of coverage. My sense is we're being prepped to open the refugee floodgates for the Rohingya, and why not? After all, according to Saunders' thesis in Maximum Canada, we'll be also-rans on the global stage and in the world economy till we hit that critical mass of a hundred million in population. A million Rohingya will give us a goodly boost in that direction. Let's just hope the Housing Matters crowd succeeds in it's quest to have lots more lux condos put up; we're gonna need a lot more luxury high-rise developments in our big cities to create enough trickle-down affordable housing for a million newcomers.

Made it down to the funeral on Friday. Is it actually a funeral if the guy's been cremated? Instead of a big old hardwood casket, there was just a little box with his ashes up on the altar. Saves on both wood and pallbearers, I suppose.

The deceased always prided himself on his immigrant heritage. He was from East Prussia. How fitting then that the officiating reverend spoke in a noticeably accented English, although I think it was perhaps more East Punjab than East Prussia. No matter; Werner would have been the first to point out that we're all equal in the eyes of God.

Elsewhere in the paper we've got a bit of fluff about the royal wedding and some obligatory drivel about the latest twists and turns in the saga of 45. Giuliani and Stormy Daniels figure in the reportage today. Ya, I know, but apparently it sells papers. That's the thing about Trump. A creation of the media from the mid-seventies on, anyone who follows media, entertainment, and politics will realize that the trajectory of Donny J has been a self-fulfilling prophecy for a society that has for far too long been amusing itself to death.

While Trump hasn't quite made America great again, he's sure given SNL a new lease on life, hasn't he? And I just learned today that Alec Baldwin used to be a busboy at Studio 54 back when young Trump was honing his pussy-grabbing skills at the notorious disco. Hmm...

Aside from a lengthy article about Syrian refugees in Lebanon, (a mere pit-stop on their way to Canada, I'm sure) there was utterly no news about the Middle East. Is that an oversight? A crooked cop in Hamilton gets eight feet worth of column inches and the most explosive tinderbox on the geopolitical map gets next to nothing? How can that be?

The Globe brain trust rightfully found room for a 3/4 page spread on the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising. That's something we never want to forget.

But not a word about what happened in Gaza yesterday or last week or last month.

That's something we don't want to know.
