Globe and Mail exposes Putin's propaganda war on Canada
The Kremlin's disinformation campaign is apparently much more extensive than we hitherto realized. Here are just a few of the falsehoods the Ruskies have been pushing, according to Steven Chase on page A3 of today's paper:
- Chrystia Freeland is a shameless warmonger
- Justin Trudeau doesn't care about the lives of Indigenous children
- Canada is a colony of the US empire
- PM Fluffy is a tool of the wealthy, and not only that, he is also a neoliberal capitalist pawn of the oligarchy.
I'll be the first to admit I've been totally taken in by Putin's propaganda. As a matter of fact, these points of view have, at least until today, struck me as self evident and non-controversial. I might quibble a little with the particulars - for example, I don't believe Justin gives a rat's ass about ANY Indigenous people, children or adults - but the overall thrust, that Canada is a meek and docile handmaiden to US power... well, to have that exposed as a lie is quite a shock!
Then again, the only source for Mr. Chase's scary story are the Champions of American Exceptionalism at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, a so-called Canadian think tank that happily solicits and receives funding from the US State Department.
Forget Putin; who's keeping us safe from US propaganda?

The steady drip of anti-China warmongering
The Globe and Mail treats us to two Yellow Peril screeds today. On page A3 Robert Fife and Steven Chase display a little faux outrage over the fact that China claims the US and its allies were the aggressors in the Korean war. The reason I suggest their outrage is somewhat inauthentic is because these guys are smart enough to know better. Without the intervention of the US and her allies there would have been no Korean war. China and her people have every right to feel pride in the fact that they helped stymie Uncle Sam's plans for the Korean peninsula.
Then, on the opinion page, we get a China expert from McGill waxing wise about how important it is to stand with our allies, and poke Xi Jinping in the eye at every opportunity, because that's what the US and her satellites are doing.
Our expert, one Jerome Beaugrand-Champagne, gets right down to the nitty-gritty. PM Fluffy is way too timid around the commies for his liking. He'd like to see us ramp the belligerence to a level that'll get us a pat on the back from Pompeo. Let's recognize Taiwan and send soldiers to defend it!
Sure thing, Jerome - here's your rifle!
What kind of idiocy is this?

Yellow Peril promoters at Globe upgrade China from "adversary" to "hostile state"
According to some top spooks at Canada's official spook agency, who get their marching orders from Washington, China's Thousand Talents Plan has been up to no good. To their credit, Fife and Chase looked up a few of the Canadians participating in the TTP initiative, all of whom denied being up to no good.
Which is entirely meaningless. They stand accused of spying for China. Of course they're going to deny it! What more proof do you want that they're guilty?
But what got my attention was the subtle shift in nomenclature. China is no longer an "adversary."
We all understand that concept. The Canadiens and the Leafs are adversaries. The Red Sox and the Yankees are adversaries. Canada (and our allies) and China used to be adversaries.
Used to be. In today's paper, China is labelled a "hostile state."
There's a difference between a hostile state and an adversary.
An adversary is a competitor.
A hostile state is your enemy...
But don't worry, Canada. We're gonna snuggle up tight with our allies... President Trump will protect us from the Yellow Peril, at least if we spend a few more billions on US war-making technology.

Canada looking to shoulder bigger share of White Man's Burden
Purpose of the mission? To find out where and how Canada can contribute a military presence to buff up its international brand. Writer Steven Chase points out that Canada's participation in "peace-keeping" missions has pretty much gone to nothing over the past twenty-five years, and now that we've got that spunky pothead Justin at the helm, we want the world to know WE'RE BACK!!!
And what better venue to burnish the brand than the Dark Continent? Just check out the Defence Minister's itinerary:
- Congo
- Mali
- Central African Republic
- Uganda
- Tanzania
- Kenya

News Flash: Saudis using Canadian-built combat vehicles for combat purposes!
What did the dweebs in Ottawa think the Saudi's were going to do with those combat vehicles?
Give the Indonesian guest-workers rides to the beach?
Ferry the at-risk Riyadh fairies home from the gay bars after a night on the town?
What, they've been reading this blog or something?
How retarded are these people?
Of course combat vehicles get used for combat!
Two years too late, Canada's mainstream media are waking up to the fact that Canada sold thousands of combat vehicles to one of the most enthusiastic human-rights violators on the planet?
JournalismIS... what?
