Discovering Black Whiteness

Recall my confusion a couple weeks back when I discovered that the leader of White Supremacist militia the Proud Boys was actually a Black man?  Professor Cristina Beltran of NYU clarifies things for us with this helpful explainer in the Washington Post.

BIPOC voters too often voted for the allegedly white supremacist Trump because he offers them Multi-racial Whiteness!

Seemed like a crock of you-know-what, till I got to the nub of the matter well into the piece; the "whiteness" we're talking about is not a skin colour, but a "political color."

Got it? That explains how a Black man can lead a White supremacist organization. By extension, that must mean that the majority White members of the group must also believe that Whiteness is about political colur rather than skin tone.

Puts a whole new spin on "White Supremacy," doesn't it!?

Black dude takes over White Supremacist outfit

Here's a quote from a Guardian story about the Proud Boys, published Oct 1, 2020;

Trump’s refusal to condemn white supremacists during the debate, and his suggestion that the Proud Boys “stand by” during the current 2020 election campaign sent shockwaves through American politics. The Southern Poverty Law Center calls the Proud Boys a hate group.

That's typical of the reportage about the group over the last several years. White supremacists are working with Trump to undermine America's smiley-face democracy, and create a thousand year Trumpian Reich!

So imagine my relief when I saw the headlines informing me that the leader of this vile band of proto-fascists had been taken into custody in Washington this morning. 

Whew! 

Maybe now that his feared street-fighting militia has been decapitated, Trump will finally throw in the towel, I hoped.

Anyway, the name of the arrested "Chairman of the Board" caught my eye; Enrique Tarrio. Hmm... sounds like a Mexican, I thought, but you don't want to jump to conclusions. Besides, how is it possible that a Mexican would be the leader of a "White Supremacist" group?

So I google the guy, and guess what? It's even better than that! Looks to me like the leader of America's most feared gang of white supremacists is black! Here's Enrique's photo from his Wikipedia page.

Enrique describes himself as "Afro-Cuban," and I see no reason to quibble with his self-assessment. He's certainly not any shade of "white" that I've ever seen.

White supremacy just ain't what it used to be.

Jews will not replace us

I was perusing the CNN-Fox news corridor today, and it seems lots of folks have got their knickers in a twist over the impending reunion of the "white nationalists" in Charlottesville.

Saw a clip of some white dudes carrying torches there last year. They appeared to be chanting "Jews will not replace us."

Hey pal, I think your job at the car wash is pretty safe. Ain't no Jewish conspiracy gonna take your job anytime soon.

I'm fully aware there's a lot of really stupid white folks out there, but "Jews will not replace us?" That's a bit much... that's so retarded you'd almost think it has to be a setup. Maybe there's a drama class at U of Virginia where they get a credit for carrying a torch. Maybe you get your Master's for throwing on a bed-sheet and chanting "the KKK is here to stay."

I don't know...

What I do know is that anytime there's one of these "white nationalist-white supremacist" get togethers that take months to organize and might attract a few dozen seriously deluded dumbfucks, normal people can organize a counter demo of thousands in a matter of days.


It's always darkest before the dawn. There is still hope for America.

Sarah Kendzior: She Wolf of the Resistance

Google "Kendzior NYT" and you'll find a link to a Kendzior tweet that beseeches the reader to cancel their subscription to the New York Times.

Why? Apparently the paper has become an open sewer of white supremacist doggerel, overflowing with Nazi propaganda and pro-Trump PR.

Who knew?!... I guess we all owe her a debt of gratitude for pointing this out to us! As an alternative to the Times, she suggests we read the Washington Post instead. Presumably you'll find less pro-Trump PR there.

Not that I'd ever noticed any in the NYT. In fact, I've found their A-list op-ed prognosticators to be reliably anti-Trump.

Has Kendzior come unglued?

Maybe, but my hunch is there's something else behind such egregious foolishness. It's really tough making a go of it financially as an independent journalist. Every click counts, and there's a shit-load of competition out there. To scale up your brand you either have to come up with some genuine insights and noteworthy scoops, or fade into the background.

Kendzior's work is devoid of scoops and thin on insights, so she relies instead on cranking up the hysteria dial. Labelling the NYT a "white supremacist paper" pretty much puts that dial at eleven. Hard to know where she's gonna go from here!

Guess I'll have to follow her to find out...  oh my gosh - I've fallen into her trap!
