Is that not the most misleading headline you've ever seen on the CNN home page?
I acknowledge that I've stooped to some pretty sketchy titles for blog posts, but it's a goddamn blog! Nobody is using it as their primary "news" source, or at least I hope they're not!
The same cannot be said of CNN. In fact, CNN presents itself as THE quality news source in America. So why do we see such a headline on CNN?
Of course it does catch the eye. Next superpower? Say what?
Now, I know Harper and company have been working overtime toadying up to the big boys, but "superpower?"
I don't believe even the most power-crazed megalomaniacs in Ottawa harbor such delusions.
Turns out the headline is for an Erin Burnett piece about Iceland briefly flirting with the idea of making the Canadian dollar its official currency. That's an idea that never got any traction either in Iceland or in Canada, but Burnett managed to fashion a headline out of it and CNN went along.
And what's really sad is that her story has generated over 3,000 comments, almost exclusively from Canada, and most of the commentators don't seem to realize the entire story was a joke.
