There is no news major in the Western world today not featuring various members of the US administration and the NATO gang wagging their fingers at Syria, warning about the grave consequences that will follow a chemical weapon attack on Assad's own people.
According to the official history, Assad has thus far slaughtered 40,000 of his own people, and aside from the sturm and drang of threatening more sanctions, the Nations of Virtue have been more or less OK with that.
But while they've been applying rhetoric and sanctions, al Qaeda has been routing the Syrian forces on the ground.
It's time for the end game. The al Qaeda brigades have done the dirty work. Now we need an excuse to save Syria.
OMG, Assad is reaching for the chemical weapons stockpiles! His loyalists are stirring buckets of sarin as we speak!
Quick! There's not a moment to lose... no time for chit-chat in Congress, or at the UN for that matter...
And by golly, have we ever had such a concentration of al Qaeda fighters gathered together in one place?...
There's a whole lot of brass in the Pentagon seeing a win-win here.
We can save thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions of Syrians from the butcher Assad.
We can take out tens of thousands of jihadhists within hours of landing.
Get those SEAL kill teams in there now!
