Many generations ago my forbears were leaving their villages in Poland and heading for America. They landed in New York and spread out to Ohio and Illinois.
Eventually only the really dumb ones were left behind.
My clan.
By the time the WWII came around there was almost more of them in America than in the old country. While it's not something that comes up very often in the chit-chat at the family picnic, it seems likely that the WWII had cousin fighting against cousin in my extended family.
The madness of war. That WWII had nation at the throat of nation for almost six years. By "at the throat" I mean millions of people died.
For what?
Wars are for nothing. France and Germany spent centuries killing the citizens of Germany and France.
For what?
Today the French and the Germans act as though nothing happened. They are allies in NATO and partners in peace.
History is full of yesterday's enemies becoming friends tomorrow.
That's why I'm still believing in peace in the Middle East.
