Making Tsarnaev a martyr invites blow-back

There's more than a few unanswered questions about the Boston Bombing, and none of them were answered in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

How did a "terror attack" that approximated the damage of a bad car accident instantly lead to a shock and awe siege of Boston? More went on in Boston than meets the eye, and DT is the fall-guy.

His conviction and subsequent death penalty are erroneously assumed to provide "closure."

It won't.

Instead, it will provoke more people to ask more questions.

For starters, how did these guys who were on FBI/CIA/FSA radar manage to pull this off?

And how did their terror attack happen to coincide with a FBI/CIA/FSA anti-terror exercise?

You can't make these questions go away just by hanging Tsarnaev.

Obama now in it to win it

That didn't take long; with his new crew of patriotic Republican cheerleaders goading him on from the Senate, the Peace Prize President wasted no time doubling the number of boots on the ground in Iraq.

These are of course "non-combat" boots, dontcha know. They won't be fighting till he doubles their numbers again in a month or two, or doubles them again a month or two after that.

It's early days on the slippery slope, folks!

So if they're not actually combating the evil-doers, what will all those boots be doing on the ground? The usual stuff... like directing traffic at those busy border crossings. ISIS infiltrators in this lane; car-bombers in this lane, FSA defectors in this lane, and so on.

Oh, and training up the locals, of course. That one's always been a head-scratcher if you ask me. The very idea that the military that hasn't won one since Grenada is your best bet to train anything seems a little back-assward. And haven't they already trained up the locals to the tune of tens of billions of dollars?

And for what?

NEWS FLASH: US has been funding "al Qaeda" for years!

This blog about Ghassan Hitto from well over a year ago pretty much spells out how the US is funding its own enemies.

Why?

So it can have enemies!

After all, the death merchants who profit so handsomely from one US war after another have zero interest in peace.

If they can influence foreign policy with respect to Iraq or Ukraine or Georgia or anywhere else that a little local disagreement can be blown into a potentially world-threatening catastrophe, they are good to go.

When you read the various points of view about how ISIS came "out of nowhere" to threaten the imaginary stability of the Middle East, you will realize that no matter which narrative finally triumphs, it is the American/NATO war profiteers who will win in the end.

Even when they lose on the ground they will win on the balance sheet.

And that, from the point of view of the American capitalist war profiteers, is how you spell "victory".

Susan Rice claims US still supporting moderate Syrian rebel

Four days after a coalition of Syrian rebel groups rejected the leadership of the US sponsored Syrian National Coalition, Susan Rice appeared on Fareed Zakaria's show on CNN to assure the American public that the US continues to support the moderate rebel in Syria.

Falling Downs field operatives tracked down the moderate rebel, Captain Abdul Barakat of Battalion One of the Free Syrian Army, at the Best Western in Istanbul for a Q & A.

FD: Captain Barakat, how is it you are able to fight Assad from your suite at the Best Western in Istanbul?

AB: I am temporarily on furlough, a little bit of R and R, and much needed, I must say.

FD: So you maintain command of your troops in the First Battalion from your command centre here?

AB: What troops? It's not called the First Battalion, it's Battalion One, because it has one guy. Me. Battalion Two had two guys but they defected to the Islamists.

FD: So when were you last in your country?

AB: I was in my country just last week.

FD: Where in Syria were you, and what was the situation on the ground?

AB: Syria? I wasn't in Syria, I was in my country. I live in London. Situation on the ground is tense. That Cameron is an idiot, worse than Blair.

FD: Oh... so when were you last in Syria?

AB: I flew in with Senator McCain a couple of months ago for a photo op. That's me there in the picture, right behind the Senator.

FD: So... do you actually have any fighters on the ground in Syria?

AB: Of course! We are all brothers united against Assad... every fighter is my brother!

FD: But do you command any of them?

AB: This the problem from the lack of support from USA. We need heavy weapons. Tanks and drones too, and no-fly zone across country. If Americans step up support, maybe nice shock and awe from Hellfire missiles and Pavemaster on Assad for a few months, then I have command in Syria, but America shameful for lack of help for Syrian freedom fighters. All they supporting now is State Department pay bill at Best Western, but Abdul left to fend for self on bar fridge tab.

FD: Well good luck to you, Captain Barakat, and thank you for your time.

Senator McCain on the warpath

John McCain made a secret visit to Syria yesterday, there to meet with Free Syria Army officials who also had to be surreptitiously spirited into Syria in order to stage their photo-ops with McCain "in-country" as they say.

That's because the FSA "commanders" McCain met with don't normally spend much time "in-country," and they certainly have no command over the FSA units doing damage to the Assad regime on the ground.

They do however have neatly tailored and crisply laundered uniforms, at least in the photo-ops.

Perhaps because he was profoundly impressed with those uniforms, or perhaps because he has inadvertently begun to believe his own bullshit, McCain came away from the encounter convinced that the best thing America could do for the future of peace and democracy is to deliver heavy weapons, and lots of them, to the "Syrian opposition."

Just to prove that McCain's foray into the SFA PR sweepstakes didn't happen in a vacuum, headlines across the Western world have provided a timely resurrection of the claims that yes, Assad has once again crossed those red lines and used chemical weapons on his own people.

Which proves that even though the FSA has no clout on the ground in Syria, they still have plenty of schlep in the world of Western news media.

And it once again brings the aging Senator front and center in the "lets make war" sweeps. Nobody is hungrier for war than Senator McCain. He will go to his grave as America's number one war-monger.

Just what is it in his past that drives him to be America's number one uber-patriot today?
