Regular readers of Canada's official propaganda organ, the CBC, will be acquainted with the Payette Scandal. The GG is apparently quite a ruthless bitch and demands a high level of performance from her staff.
That's unfortunate, but hey, shit happens. In the modern era, though, it's a really big deal when the boss hurts your feelings. Is it a "news" story? Well, maybe if you're trying to take the spotlight off something else, but I don't want to get all conspiracy theoretician on you. Suffice it to say that I personally have had my feelings hurt in the course of my career, so I feel your pain, but really?
The hurt feelings mask a deeper scandal. Take a close read of this:
Four members of Payette's communications team have departed during the pandemic period alone. A fifth person is leaving this week and another two have taken leaves of absence.
Looks to me like the GG has a communications staff of at least seven, and possibly more. I would think that someone chosen for this very cushy post would have communication skills to begin with. One independent outside expert as a communication consultant might be a good idea, but a staff of seven?...
If you find that a little extravagant, you'll love this:
In 2019, just over one-in-five of the 126 Rideau Hall employees who responded to the survey reported having been victims of harassment on the job over a 12-month period.
Say what? The GG has a staff of 126?
For a token job, that's a lot of hired help.
The CBC has a story about some disgruntled civil servants. The real scandal is that it takes 126 of them to keep this absurd office functioning.
My bad; 126 is the number who responded to the survey. The actual number of staffers who draw nice paycheques keeping this shit-show afloat could easily be two or three times higher.
