That indefatigable cheerleader for war, Bernard-Henri Levy, solemnly informed us this week that, make no mistake, we are at war with Islamic State.
"A new kind of war," no less.
And please note that this is not a war of our choosing; this war has been forced on the US and France and their allies. Yes, the sordid history of France in Algeria and America's serial wars on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria have nothing to do with the emergence of radical Islam.
They hate us for our democratic values, our openness, our tolerance...
Even the great BHL seems to be vaguely aware of what a putrid pile of shit he has concocted here. Perhaps that is why he has perfumed this outrageously dishonest dung-heap of a call to war with no less than twenty instances of name-dropping:
Leon Blum
Elie Halevy
Georges Bataille
Michel Leiris
Roger Caillois
Thucydides
Clausewitz
Carl Schmitt
Saint Augustine
Saint Thomas Aquinas
Victor Hugo
Paul Claudel
Hitler
Massoud
Izetbegovic
Mujibur Rahman
Tariq Ramadan
Abdelwahab Meddeb
Churchill
George Pitt-Rivers.
Wow! That's a staggeringly impressive level of erudition on display in one relatively brief essay! How is it possible that such a brilliant narrator could be lying to us?
And fear not, BHL already has a road-map to victory in the war that the forces of darkness have forced on the Nations of Virtue.
Yes, they've got us cornered, those "fascislamists" do, and we freedom-loving peaceable nations who have been ravaging and plundering and humiliating the Islamic world for generations have no choice but to fight a merciless war for our very survival...
And the very survival of Western Civilization depends on Mr. Obama putting American boots on the ground.
Now!
...at least according to that philosopher, war-monger, and imbecile-at-large, the esteemed Bernard-Henri Levy.

Canada's back-channel support for ISIS
No serious person can deny the links between the Saudi regime and its Wahhabi driven seedlings, al Qaeda and ISIS.
Nevertheless, the Harper gang was loathe to raise their voice in protest against our "Saudi friends." After all, those friends were responsible for the biggest manufacturing export "win" in the history of Canadian manufacturing.
This was one of the great achievements of Harper's Decade of Darkness.
Justin Trudeau has weighed in on the Raif Badawi file. Maybe that signals a sea-change in Canada's modus operandi. Maybe we'll no longer shut-up about human rights abuses just to secure those big wins for our foreign-owned export sector.
While Justin is championing Badawi, he might want to have a look at the case of Ali-Mohammad al-Nimr. Ali Mo pretty much done what Badawi done; used the internet to cast aspersions on the Saudi royal family. But unlike Badawi, Ali Mo lacks an overseas support network.
So Ali Mo didn't get sentenced to 1000 lashes; he got sentenced to a head-chopping... and get this; after they lop his noggin, he's due for a crucifixion!
Yup, if that sounds like a scene straight outta the ISIS playbook, it's because it is. Now you know where ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State/Daesh got their playbook...
Saudi Arabia!
So while we're busy as can be supposedly fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria with our fleet of '70's era jet-fighters, we're selling Saudi Arabia thousands of state-of-the-art armoured vehicles, the better to propagate their vision of human rights with.

US commentariat exploding in shit-hemmorages as Russia joins battle against ISIS
There's always been a few brazen incongruities about our battle against Islamic State, or Daesh, or ISIS, or ISIL... this terror meme with many names...
Like, we all agree that the evil Assad has got to go, but when enthusiastic young people from the Nations of Virtue venture to the Middle East to join the battle against the evil tyrant, we brand them "terrorists!"
What up with that?
But now we've got no less an international ogre than Putin himself offering to assist the West in the battle against the head-chopping maniacs of ISIS.
Well, hold the phone...
Putin is not welcome in our losing battle to confront and roll back those most terrorific towelheads of terror!
Not welcome?
How is such a thing even possible?
I'm no expert. I'm not a commentarian for any of the multitudinous think tanks that spew war-mongering drivel against Putin and Assad and anyone else who inconveniences the master plan of the PNAC crowd.
But I've got a hunch...
Just like we don't want those youthful but unreliable freebooters heading over to Syria to "free" the Syrian people from Assad, we REALLY don't need a professional military force over there fighting the terror scourge of ISIS.
Why?
Because they might destroy ISIS and thereby save Assad's skin...
And that would completely wipe out every reason we had for creating the Islamic State/ISIS/ISIL/Daesh in the first place!

Harper's Rx for election victory: keep taxes low and towelheads out
Looks like Big Steve isn't about to alienate his base by showing weakness in the face of the unprecedented clamouring of Canadians at large that he "do something" to alleviate the suffering of Syrian refugees.
He is doing something. He's announcing, over and over, that Canada will admit up to 10,000 Syrians over a period of years, provided they pass strict security screenings. That's essential to keeping Canadians safe, of course, when these folks are coming from a country that features literally thousands of armed terrorist gangs.
And even more importantly, that's almost impossible to do. After all, how do you do an exhaustive background check on somebody who has lived in Aleppo all their life till three months ago? What were they doing six months ago? If they were Assad supporters... well, we wouldn't want that sort welcomed in Canada, would we?
And if they were against Assad, they were probably in cahoots with some terror outfit like al Nusra Front or, God forbid, ISIL itself! We obviously can't let that lot in either!
But in spite of these obstacles, we are making progress. With two hundred thousand Syrians dead, two million in refugee camps, and four million displaced from their homes, Canada has already provided security clearance for nine Syrian refugees.
That's not nine thousand, that's nine.
Yet those braying socialist Harper-haters still claim the man lacks compassion...

An honourable politician in the Harper gang? Forsooth... what was I thinking?
It's been a couple of days. For a few hopeful seconds I thought perhaps Immigration Minister Chris Alexander had a "Damascus" moment. Faced with the enormity of the impact the Aylan Kurdi photo made on the conscience of the nation, I'd hoped Mr. Alexander suspended his re-election campaign to reflect on how far on the wrong side of history the Harper gang finds itself.
It appears my hopeful seconds were misguided. All indications are that the Big Steve crowd are consolidating around their utterly contradictory positions on Syria. The evil Assad gotta go, but the Canadian Air Force is over there bombing the crap out of Islamic State, the only force on the ground with any chance of facilitating that outcome.
That's beyond delusional and self-defeating; it's utterly schizophrenic
Be that as it may, the only "Damascus" moment the Harperites are likely to have is when God tells them they have to drop more bombs on Damascus.
As for the refugees, Harper has handled that file like he handles the ship-building file. You don't actually ever have to do anything.
Just keep making new announcements every few months.
That's the beauty of governing by photo-op and press release!

Harper gang mines fear factor for maximum electoral advantage
Minus the Air India thing and a couple of French-Canadian wankers who converted to Islam and went nuts, Canada has NEVER had a terrorist attack of any sort.
Let alone an attack from Islamic State.
But that's not slowing down the Harper crew's attack on Islam.
The latest headline grabber is Harper's proposed new law on banning travel to "terror" states.
Trudeau is right in labeling this as "posturing."
But it's so more insidious than that.
First of all, bear in mind that Canada has been utterly terror free.
In that environment, Canada, ie the Harper gang, decide to join some jury-rigged "coalition" that is bombing ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
This is justifiable because ISIS has declared war on Canada. Yes, some Islamic State spokesperson mentioned Canada while reading a list of states allied against them.
That was the "declaration of war."
Big Steve has been milking that like gangbusters ever since.
Let's have a closer look at this ban on travel to so-called terror states.
Big Steve is obviously not going to designate our NATO ally Turkey as a "terror state."
Yet virtually 100% of Western Islamic State recruits enter Syria via Turkey.
You don't have to ponder this conundrum very long or very hard to come to the realization that the most recent Harper pronouncement about terror travel is absolute electioneering bullshit.
It means nothing, but it gets Big Steve a chance to fan the flames of fear while simultaneously presenting himself as the solution to a non-existent problem.
So fight terror. Vote for a strong Canada. Vote for peace and freedom.
Vote Harper on October 19.

Erdogan takes Turkey over the cliff
When Erdogan officially joined the war on Islamic State last week, the move was widely heralded in Western media as a good thing.
After all, Turkey has been, unofficially, the most prominent facilitator of Islamic State heretofore. ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State/Daesh would not have been possible without the connivance of Turkey. Not that this fact was widely acknowledged in that same Western media.
I've long been a fan of the wily Erdogan. He seemed to think himself the reincarnation of Kemal Ataturk, and he conducted himself accordingly.
But if you've been paying attention, you've noticed that the much ballyhooed war on the Islamic scourge is nothing of the sort. What he's done is declared a war on them but instead opened a war on the Kurds.
This can only end badly for Turkey.

Will NATO toss Erdogan under the bus?
And will this signal the rise of Fethullah Gulen?
Gulen has been cooling his heels in America, being groomed for goodness knows what, but definitely something that can benefit the American Empire.
Meanwhile, Erdogan's antics are more erratic than ever. Yes, he's finally taking a stand against ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State/Daesh, after supporting and nurturing the supposedly mysterious Al Qaeda offshoot for years.
But now he's not only let loose the Turkish military on the Jihadists, but on the very Kurdish "allies" that the US and Canada have been busy training up to assist in the battle against the Islamic extremists!
This is a bizarre situation. On the one side, you have NATO training the Kurds. On the other, you have NATO bombing them.
Something's got to give!
When you look at NATO, and you see the US and their poodle Canada doing one thing, and Turkey doing the opposite, it's not hard to figure out what's gonna give...
Goodbye, Mr. President!

After years of sponsoring ISIS, Erdogan and Davutaglu pretend they didn't see the blowback coming...
Sure, they're going to increase "border security" now that an ISIS suicide bomber has lit up on their side of the border.
Border security between Turkey and Syria has been a complete joke for at least the past four years. Turkey under Erdogan and Davutaglu has been a no-holds-barred conduit for fighters and weapons heading into Syria to unseat Assad.
But now they pretend to be utterly shocked that the very "terror" entities that they have been feeding and promoting all along have turned on them?
Erdogan (and make no mistake, Turkey remains Erdogan's show regardless of who the nominal leader is) has been playing a double game all the way down the line.
Now that duplicity is coming back to bite him.
Unfortunately, it's the little people who pay the price.

Obama's latest Syria initiative has found only 60 moderate rebels to train
It's been a PNAC wet dream to affect regime change in Syria for at least 20 years, but somehow the media still manage to fumble over the matter as though it's an idea Obama just came up with six months ago.
Hence the desultory reportage about the epic fail in the latest US "training" program of those imaginary moderate Syrian rebels.
Yup, they've only found 60 moderates in all of Syria to train up in their $500 million training program... and they'll be "moderates" till they get around the next corner with their US weapons and training, whereupon they'll hook up with their home crew of Nusra or ISIL homies.
Nobody ever imagined things would turn out any other way.
Those vile Islamic head-choppers are an American fabrication from start to finish.
They are labelled "moderates" for training purposes only.

Canada "under siege" by ISIL
I was driving home this afternoon after taking the Stihl to the chain-saw doctor, when the CBC news comes on, and I hear that Canada is under siege.
Yup, apparently the towel-heads of terror, ISIL/ISIS/Islamic State are besieging us...
Holy shit!
Is even safe to head home?
Should I turn back and head for the Bayshore Inn and hunker down at the bar till the siege is broken?
Under siege...
That conjures up images of the Warsaw ghetto... Stalingrad... oh my God, it's gotta be bad if we're under siege!
Against my better judgement, I continued homeward! Luckily, I did not encounter any toweller check-points along the way.
Whew!
Guess I missed the bullet this time!
Hmm... maybe we're not actually under any ISIL siege after all.
Maybe we're just besieged by Harperite bullshit designed to stir us up and put some fear into us... loosen us up to vote Conservative in the upcoming election.
After all, it's only the Harper gang that recognizes the imminent threat that the radical Jihadists represent.

Canada gets more proof that threat of terrorism is real
Look for lots more stories like this one in the weeks and months ahead, as the Harper gang pulls out all the stops to convince the public they are at imminent risk and need the Police State Bill C-51 to save them from the jihadist hordes.
Frankly, had the 17 year old would-be terrorist been allowed to proceed to Syria, he would have been disabused of his illusions soon enough.
Given the fact that previous Foreign Minister John Baird declared dozens of times that "Assad must go," it seems ironic that when Canadians want to go to Syria to assist in the armed struggle against Assad they are targeted as terrorists. Meanwhile, the same government that claims Assad must go wants to expand and enlarge our war on the people fighting Assad... to say our government has an incoherent foreign policy would be an understatement.
But back to our wannabe terrorist in Alberta. I'll climb out on a limb and guess he is of a Somali-Canadian ethnicity. Hmm... is there any discussion of the difficulties that youth of that background have integrating into mainstream society?
Why of course!
There's been lots and lots of sociology done on this question.
Those Somali's are a marginalized sub-group in society, and just like those two French-Canadian misfits who were our first and second proofs that Canada is a target of Jihadi terror, they are vulnerable to finding the prospect of joining a radical group like Islamic State attractive. They fantasize that their imaginary new family of "brothers" will give them the sense of purpose they didn't find in Canadian society at large.
Therefore, if we were serious about reducing the threat of radicalized malcontents in our society, we should be doing more to ensure their inclusion, but alas, that smells suspiciously like sociology, and the macho warriors in the Harper gang will have no truck with that. Besides, the Harperites need jihadi terror threats to wave around.
It's all about Bill C-51.
Here's how our Alberta terror story looked at the Israeli news site Ynet, which got it via Agence France Presse;

Canadian taxpayer to fork over $122 millions for Harper's grandstanding on Islamic State
We're not sure who we're fighting over there in Iraq... ISIS, ISIL, the Islamic State? But apparently our participation is costing us $122 million for the first six months.
Or perhaps $166 millions according to a new estimate released today.
And since ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State has only expanded in those first six months, a re-up is a foregone conclusion. The smart money says this could go on for years, if not decades.
Meanwhile, I know at first hand that the local high school is holding fund-raisers to keep their breakfast program alive...
But we got hundreds of millions to stick it to "Islamic fundamentalists."
Frankly, I don't understand how fighting Islamic fundamentalists in Iraq is any of our concern. Is this really about "fighting terrorists?" If I'm not mistaken, our much ballyhooed "terror attacks" of recent memory were carried out by French-Canadian Roman Catholics.
They were allegedly "recent converts" to Islam, but that should be considered a red flag, not a green one. Having been married to a couple of Roman Catholics (not at the same time, mind you) I think abandoning that dodgy superstition in favour of a foreign superstition every bit as dodgy should be taken as a cry for help.
That's what frosts my ass about the way this government tosses millions of dollars into adventures that are, if we're lucky, irrelevant. If we're not lucky it'll give authentic jihadists a legitimate reason to treat us to some real terror.
Sadly, while we seem to have money to burn on flying counter-productive bombing runs in Iraq, we can't afford to properly care for mentally ill young men who want to lash out at the world by running over a soldier in uniform, we can't provide housing for the homeless, we can't come to equitable agreements with our native population, we cant rein in rogue corporations who are destroying jobs and befouling the environment; in short, when messed up young men are wildly waving red flags, we can't respond.
But we can afford $122 million dollars to bomb Iraq for six months. Billions more will be spent to see this mission through to its conclusion, and the only conceivable purpose is to make Harper look like a bold warrior king.
What a waste!

Will Kasasbeh execution rally Jordan behind America's "War on Terror?"
It's a particularly brutal chapter in a brutal war; Islamic State has allegedly executed Jordanian Air Force pilot Muath Kasasbeh by burning him alive.
Jordan has been one of the more delicate dominoes in the region, with a sizeable minority of the population being sympathetic to Islamic State. Why would Islamic State deliberately undermine their support in Jordan by providing the regime with this incendiary rallying point for anti-Islamic State propaganda?
This just doesn't add up, unless...

Top US General wants to bring jobs, education, and health care to D̶e̶t̶r̶o̶i̶t̶ Syria and Iraq
US General Philip Breedlove, top banana on the military side of NATO, was on the CBC yesterday morning giving us Canucks the lowdown on the war on Islamic State/ISIS/ISIL.
He assured us that this war the Harperites have rushed us into will go on for a long, long time. Indefinitely even... unless we address the root causes.
And how do we do that?
Well, seems the comrades of the Caliphate are readily radicalised because they don't have jobs. They don't have education. They don't have health care or personal security.
So there will be an endless supply of fresh recruits for the Towelheads of Terror, and this war could go on forever and ever, unless we smarten up and get to work providing these impressionable but disaffected youngsters jobs, education, and health care.
This is actually some unexpectedly lucid reasoning from a top brass guy in the US Army. I was impressed!
But then I thought, Whoa!... hold the phone, Mr. General! The US and the NATO gang are gonna do this for the disaffected youth of Syria and Iraq?
I'm willing to bet that there's disaffected youth aplenty all across the USA who might buy into this... from Detroit to Ferguson to New Orleans to Cleveland there's millions of marginalized youth who would welcome a government initiative to create jobs, provide quality affordable education, and health care...
What do they have to do before you notice them?
Take up arms and declare a Caliphate?

Canada puts the run to Islamic State terrorists!
No, it's not me making that up.
It's not even Bullshittin' Baird or Big Steve making that up!
This is the real deal, straight from US Army top dog General Martin Dempsey!
And while he doesn't spell out the specifics, it's beyond obvious that what has turned the tide in the battle against the Islamic State is the fact that those Canadian CF-18s are now in on the action.
Think about it. All you've heard all summer is ISIS this and ISIL that and OMG Islamic State is taking over the world!
Then, two weeks ago, the Canadians, known world-wide for punching way above their weight, join the fray...
And not two weeks later we have General Dempsey declaring that those ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State baddies are on the run!
Coincidence?...
Sometimes you have to read between the lines.

Canada FM Baird "deeply horrified"
Those of you who are habitual readers of the press releases emanating from Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Gay Rights, Mining Rights, and Corporate Rights, will be well acquainted with bullshittin' Baird's tendency to fling dung in the direction of enemies of Empire.
He is often appalled, occasionally outraged, but rarely if ever has he been deeply horrified.
But he is today...

Canada Condemns ISIL’s Massacre of Sunni Opponents
October 30, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today released the following statement:
“I am deeply horrified by reports that mass graves have been uncovered in the Iraqi province of Anbar, allegedly containing the bodies of hundreds of members of the Sunni Albu Nimr tribe, which is opposed to the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [ISIL].
“These acts are a clear reminder of ISIL’s total disregard for human life and that they will kill anyone who does not adhere to their brutal ideology and distorted version of Islam, be they Shia, Sunni or members of other religious communities.
“Canada condemns ISIL’s brutality and calls upon the diverse population of Iraq to face the terrorist threat as one and bring those responsible to justice.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.”
Canada has officially listed ISIL as a terrorist entity under Canada’s Criminal Code.

Oh ya!
Those ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State baddies have killed hundreds of their opponents.
This leaves the Canadian Foreign Minister "deeply horrified."
Oddly enough, when Israel was killing a few hundred of its opponents last summer, along with many more hundreds of innocent civilians, Baird was rendered speechless.
"Speechless" as in he had not one critical word to say about Israel.
And that second paragraph is a doozy, is it not? Let's give it just a subtle tweak;
These acts are a clear reminder of USA's total disregard for human life and that they will kill anyone who does not adhere to their brutal ideology and distorted version of democracy, be they Shia, Sunni or members of other religious communities.
Just last week Baird was in Saudi Arabia, a country whose non-elected government has been beheading it's opponents for years, talking nice and being anything but "deeply horrified," because after all, the Saudis are buying lots and lots of military stuff from Canada.
You can't be going off all horrified when there's a dollar to be turned!
Fact is, the US and her allies in the region have taken exponentially more lives, innocent or otherwise, than the upstart Islamic State, and never has there been so much as a "somewhat concerned," let alone a "deeply horrified," from Mr. Baird.

ISIS rapidly gaining mainstream support throughout Arab world
This story about football fans chanting their support for Islamic State at a match in Morocco should give us pause.
But it won't.
Instead, today we are treated to yet another press release from Canada's know-nothing Foreign Minister, Baird the Bombastic. ISIL is just a gang of terrorists, don't you know, who are bent on raping and pillaging and slaughtering anyone who stands in their way as they seek to spread their hateful ideology throughout Iraq and Syria... which apparently reinforces our moral duty to stop their murderous rampage, which we will do in concert with "our allies."
That would be these folks:

Sorry Mr. Baird, your claim to the moral high ground rings a little hollow. We may have forgotten Abu Ghraib here in the Nations of Virtue, but you can bet they haven't in Iraq.
The reason Islamic State finds a receptive audience is because at long last the Arab street has a champion that promises to put the last hundred years of humiliation behind them.
In other developments, Baird also announced today that he is jetting to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to discuss our "strong and growing relationships" with the ruling elites of those flourishing democracies.
But it won't.

US declares war on Islamic State - buckle up for blowback
The Nations of Virtue have been neck-deep in fomenting the anti-al Assad insurgency from the beginning. The brave but largely fictional Syrian Free Army was supplied by the US via various middle east proxies. Volunteers from around the world flocked to jihadi training camps in Turkey and Jordan and were then spirited into Syria with the full connivance of the US.
Alas, as Bashar al Assad's "last days" became weeks, then months, and now years, it became increasingly obvious that the imaginary democratic and moderate opposition we had created in Syria had morphed into something quite different; an extremist Islamic army trained and equipped by the US and NATO. Gradually the narrative shifted from "how long can al Assad hang on", to "how long before those foreign jihadis are back in Boston, Stockholm, or London, wreaking havoc on the soft white underbelly of the West?"
However hypothetical that question may have been yesterday, it takes on far greater urgency today. The news that the US Air Force has bombed ISIS assets in Iraq opens a new front in America's war on Islam. Now that we have raised a radical Islamic fighting force, by far larger, better equipped and more competent than anything seen before, it's only a matter of time until yesterday's paranoid fantasies become reality.
