Why don't New Yorkers like 1200 square foot apartments anymore?

I see where Mayor Bloomberg has tossed out a challenge to his pals in the development industry; he's willing to lose the 400 foot minimum on apartment square footage if they can come up with "liveable" designs for smaller spaces.

I'm guessing they'll have no problem rising to the challenge. After all, there's a couple million Americans living in spaces as small as 4 feet by 8. Some of them live there for years. Even for decades in some cases!

These are Americans we otherwise know as "inmates".

So Mayor Mike's industry buddies should be all over this one.

By the way, that's generally the crowd that's extravagantly enriched themselves while making housing totally unaffordable for working people in New York City.

But after all, the nurses and the teachers and the cops and firefighters have to live somewhere...

Welcome to your new 240 square foot "super studio" Mr. Tibbs...
