Kenya rich in irony
This headline at al Jazeera caught my eye. It's rather cheeky to see two fellows wanted by the ICC announcing they'll combine forces to run for the top jobs in the country.
Mind you, politics is a good gig in Kenya. While the average Kenyan makes do with an annual income in the range of $1,000 per annum, a senator makes about $150,000 (USD), and a Pres or PM will double that again, even before kickbacks and commissions, so you can't blame them for trying.
But what's up with that ICC and all their busy work in Africa? There must be something in their charter that restricts their pursuit of justice to ferreting out black African war criminals.
The charges against Ruto and Kenyatta stem from the post-election violence at the last vote, and the upcoming March vote is promising lots more of the same. That's ironic, considering that Kenya has more resident Quaker pacifists than any other country in the world.
Also ironic is that the Kenyans have consistently been eager to do the bidding of their former colonial masters in Africa. Is this due to its Christian majority? Does that make them a natural ally in the war on Islam?
And here's another irony; half of Kenya's export income derives from agricultural products, while at least half the population depends on food aid!
