Burn those poppies!

Well there's a stumper... you can burn a flag but not a poppy?

Seems Her Majesty's finest have arrested some wanker for posting a picture of a burning poppy on Facebook. This is apparently a violation of the 25 year old "malicious telecommunications" act.

Malicious telecommunications? In my book that's when some twat from a call center in Bangalore calls to remind me that my phone bill is two days past due.

But no, in Great Britain it's when your communication causes someone, most likely a government snoop, to feel distress and/or anxiety over something you've put in the pubic domain.

I suppose that Buddy over there in England could have caused some distress with that burning poppy. For example, I can see why some veterans might take umbrage. There they were, risking life and limb so that their folks back home could have freedom of expression, and them some ingrate mocks their efforts with this little bit of theater.

That will never do! Lock the shithead up and throw away the key!
