Not only did Sheldon Adelson give Newt another chance, he gave him another five million dollars, via the Gingrich super-PAC "Winning our Future", according to a story in Israeli newspaper Haaretz today.
After riding a wave of poll-leading euphoria a month ago, caucus voters have given Newt something of a reality check.
And no wonder. Surely at least some Republicans must have memories that can recall the glory days of Newt. Whether it's the series of extra-marital scandals or the series of congressional scandals that eventually forced Newt's resignation, the people know that Newt is not a synonym for integrity.
Newt has gone well out of his way to decry the anti-interventionist agenda of Ron Paul as "defeatist" and "isolationist". What exactly is Gingrich proposing when he talks about doing "something" about Iran's nuclear ambitions?
He's proposing the exact same thing as Adelson's puppet in Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu. There is no Gingrich agenda, no Netanyahu agenda, there is an Adelson agenda.
And since Adelson himself won't be within missile range when the Iranians react to our pre-emptive strike, he feels free to have his bought-and-paid-for politicians talk a tough game.
