Ending a months-long absence from the news radar, our NATO sponsored Libyan rebels have suddenly resurfaced in the New York Times.
And how is peace and freedom working out for our newly democratic friends in Libya? Not that great apparently. They're having a little problem with a concept called "law and order".
All those disparate rebel factions that we rather hastily armed seem to like being armed. Not only that, but they plan to stay armed. When you're an armed gang and there's no state power to compel you to do this or that, you pretty much do whatever you want.
And they do!
And they like it that way!
It's nirvana for the armed gangs, not so great for the regular folks.
The hapless National Transitional Council is still waiting for Gadaffi's billions to be sent back by their NATO liberators so they can buy the loyalty of the militias.
In the meantime squads of western contractors are scouring the country buying up as much weaponry as they can. Wonder who's paying for that?
This only works to a point. According to the Times, former rebels won't give up their weapons in case a new dictator emerges. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
I think it's called the second ammendment over here.
