I think those crafty commies could be onto something.
President Hu Jintao sounded the alarm that there was too much crap on TV. Too many dating shows. Too many reality shows. Too many Chinese knock-offs of Survivor and American Idol. Steven Tyler look-alikes were all over the small screen.
In China, unlike in the US, when the President speaks, things happen.
Chinese TV responded with a flurry of new shows highlighting traditional virtues and core socialist values. The core Chinese value today is making out like a bandit by stealing jobs from high-wage countries.
The most popular of the new shows is Ding Dong Diaries, which follows the life of eight year old Ding as he toils forteen hour days in the Qangzua Heavy Machinery and Counterfeit NBA Apparel Works.
Little Ding puts up with deplorable conditions but never complains. He knows, even at his tender age, that he toils for the greater glory of the empire, and the new Bentley of the factory manager.
I think it's time we took a page out of their book instead of them just ripping off our stuff all the time.
Let's have programming that is inspirational instead of just shallow mindless entertainment.
Let's bring Ding Dong to American television!
