Edward Snowden's hiatus at Moscow Airport may soon be over. In an unprecedented display of unity politicians across the political spectrum in France have called on President Hollande to offer asylum to the NSA whistle-blower.
This must be music to Hollande's ears. Hitherto the only thing that his opponents ever called for with one voice is his resignation.
Hollande is a desperate politician. While he risks offending his US allies, that could well give him a major popularity boost at home. What would he have to lose?
Such a move would also send a message on behalf of all of America's European NATO allies that they don't appreciate the revelation that they have been constantly spied on by the US.
