Canadian PM defends F-35 purchase, denies rumors of Lockheed directorship

Vice-Admiral David Venlet of the US Navy, head of the F-35 development program, recently admitted that the new generation strike fighter is a piece of crap that doesn't work and that the flying services would be well advised to avoid it at all costs.

This has not dampened the enthusiasm of the Canadian purchasers however. Prime Minister Harper claims that just because the Americans don't want their own plane is no reason for Canada not to spend thirty, sixty,  or even a hundred billion on it.

Harper also served notice that he has not been offered a post-politics career as an executive director of Lockheed Martin, the plane's manufacturer. Rumors have been swirling around Ottawa that the PM has been offered the million a year no-work post when he withdraws from the parliamentary life.

"I don't know anything about that" Harper told reporters, "maybe they offered it to MacKay or Fantino. Talk to them. All I know is that the Lockheed Martin guys told me it's the right machine for the job, and that's good enough for me."
