Big Oil has consistently lied about this, and our political elite have, for whatever reason, chosen to believe them. A cynic might suspect that this has something to do with political donations and influence peddling.
The toxic chemicals are used to fracture rock formations and thereby release gas and oil contained therein. “Fracking” as it’s known has proven a bonanza to big oil, and until today regulators were content to look the other way.
Here’s a sample of the smorgasbord of toxins that you can expect to find in your drinking water once they start fracking your neighbourhood: potassium chloride, xylene, toluene, benzene, ethylbenzene, and gasoline.
All perfectly safe, Big Oil assures us.
Maybe not, the EPA belatedly discovers.
