There’s a drama unfolding at a Brazilian port.
The world’s newest and largest ore carrier, the Vale Beijing, is taking on water. Taking on ore is what ore carriers are supposed to do. When they take on water, well, that’s not so good.
Technical types from the South Korean shipyard that built the Vale Beijing are scrambling to find the source of the water. That’s simple enough; just look over the side, you twits! What do you think this baby is floating in? Or was floating in. A spokesman for STX Shipbuilding would only confirm that there has been “an ingress of water.”
Indeed.
That’s a key factor in shipbuilding. You can have the newest and the fastest and the longest and the most hull capacity and awards and accolades and the most efficient shipyard and blah blah blah….
But if the boat don’t float, none of that means a thing.
